This is the thesis work of my Electronic Music degree graduation at the Bellini conservatory of Catania. 

I decided to keep it simple and just do three sections of 2 minutes each with pure sonical exploration of granular synthesis, respectively trying to achieve exploration of the low frequencies in the first, middle in the second, and higher frequency zones in the last section.

The piece is structured as a series of one shots which introduce the listener to the sounds of granular synthesis, progressively going toward more and more complexity and cooler and cooler sounds :)

Kind of shabby at the start, this piece becomes better and better.

Idro [old]

Idro is the result of having attended the Composition class of the Musica Elettronica (Electronic Music)course at Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali V. Bellini (Catania, Italy). We were commissioned a track that would not make use of the tonal system and its mechanics, and would use a personal compositional system instead.

The track is modeled after an inverted triangle, where the first, leftmost vertex represents the negative qualities associated with the water as a symbol, the rightmost the positive, the lower vertex the neutral and balancing force between these two. 3 minutes was the original length of the project: I planned 1 minute for every vertex.

The track starts with the leftmost vertex (passive, depressing, unstable), goes down to the neutral (a somewhat balanced phase between the two poles), then ends with the positive vertex (harmony, serenity, tranquillity, constructivity). The track ends with an explosion, simbol of the creation.

Although I tried to stick to this project, the track started to have a life and will of his own, and ended up like a showcase of almost all the elements, like water at the first minute, air and earth in the middle, and fire in the last one (that's what some friends said; people may or may not agree: everyone is different and feels different stuff).  In this regard, "Idro" may not be an appropriate name, but I grew fond of it :)

Originally, I thought about creating 5 different tracks, one for each element, but having seen how things turned out, I think that I will move on to new horizons, so to speak.
