guppi: I've never really thought about quitting. Producing to me is kind of like a hole that I got into, and I almost can't get out. The good thing is that I write what I'm going through; it sounds pretty cliche, but it's one of the better ways for me to respond to certain stuff.

With Desiigners career based solely on hit singles with no real substantial lyrical value besides saying the song title more often than other words, such as 'Panda' and 'Timmy Turner', it is easy to see where he pulls inspiration from for his new release, 'Holy Ghost'.

Considering he pretty much has no more than 4 lines total in every song he has ever created, it is important to try to understand why. Just a brief analysis of any line out of ‘Holy Ghost’, will lead to even the most plebeian rap aficionado to draw the same obvious conclusion. Desiigner is a man of strong spiritual beliefs. In the line, “Ride in the drop, that’s that holy ghost”, he is referring to his weekly drive to Sunday mass, where he Is relieved of his sins from the weekend of binge drinking, smoking way too much weed, and inevitably doing 6 to 8 lines of ketamine and then realizing that he needs to improve his life and vocabulary (although the word vocabulary is not in his vocabulary), and the only way to do so, is to repent. Following along with the lyrics, “Holy shit, do the holy ghost / Holy shit, cause I’m holy rich”, is his time of enlightenment sometime between hour 2.5 and 3 of the preacher saving everyone on stage and removing the devil. Desiigner clearly wants this life of good and wants to save himself for god himself, so while he reflects upon his riches he realizes that there is a higher power that has motivated him to empower his life and do good.

As he leaves the church a better man, he, as all morals who are Christian do, still has a sentimental attachment to his belongings. He probably should’ve chosen Buddhism if he really wanted to become a better person tbh. This is reflected in his next lyric “I’ma drive in the Lamb, watch them take a pic”. Clearly he is too attached to his personal belongings such as food and drugs and money as seen in the lyric “Hold on, I grab the toast, I'm sippin' on codeine, I feel like I overdosed, I shoot up like morphine”and cannot stop flexing, so he drives around the church parking lot slowly showing off his Lamborghini. As he drives by the honeys and hoes that also go to church for similar reasons, the impact of the following line can be found. “I skrt on that ass, ‘fore you take the flick / I’ma fuck Rihanna, put her all in Desiigner”, is a sad sign of what it to come, which is never actually learning the lessons taught in the bible, specifically in Matthew 6, “When you do good deeds, don't try to show off.”. He clearly does not have enough intellect to retain the material taught and just continues to go into his same old ways, leading into a recursive decline of sex, money, drug abuse, and flexing instead of being selfless. In one last hopeful attempt to gain some value out of his weekly Sunday excursion to church, he calls out to god in a prayer, “Diamonds last forever, last forever / We gon’ blast together”, knowing that the lord is watching over him and falsely thinking that he is doing the right thing. He seems happy and understanding of the world with this final lyrical analysis of his line, “Feel light as a feather, Hey, this the real”.
