Whether he’s sculpting kick drums from recordings of balloons being popped, defying dance music’s loyalty to the 4x4 beat with unusual time signatures, or engaged in conversation with past versions of himself while he creates art for the future… Everything you need to know about the young Scottish electronic artist and multi-instrumentalist WhyTwo exists and thrives in the spaces in between. 
His intricate, detailed and highly musical sound explores the space between dancefloors and headphones. His constant use of Foley recordings and his passion for classic jungle breakbeats surveys the space between drum & bass and avant-garde electronic music. His artist name and one of the strongest musical inspirations in his life traverse the space between then and now: WhyTwo was one of his earliest words as a toddler (it’s what he called fire engines) while his jazz musician grandfather was a huge influence on him.   
Even his hectic range of occupations creates an exciting space for WhyTwo to evolve… A freelance sound designer, an engineer in a renown Edinburgh jazz club and a regular session musician with numerous bands flexing all manner of genres; WhyTwo bounces between these universes, sampling his environments and those close to him, pushing himself to never repeat the same idea, process or sound again, constantly trying to express meaning and articulate emotion through instrumental music.
To date this unique meaning and emotion can be experienced on just a handful of releases – from a brief sojourn on the late great experimental drum & bass imprint Med School to his beguiling debut album Ghost on Blu Mar Ten’s cult imprint BMTM – but plenty more is expected imminently as WhyTwo continues to make himself known to the wider fringes of breakbeat culture. Forever exploring the unchartered playgrounds between the influences of the past, the present in which you read these words… And his own exciting future.
