Revelation of Sound is pleased to present Shelley, who hails from Bielefeld, Germany. She has been DJing since 2019. Electronic music has been a part of her life since childhood. Through the local club scene, long nights, and numerous sonic journeys, she was inspired to teach herself the art of DJing.
Her sets are characterized by cultivating frequencies and a deep understanding rooted strongly in nature. She creates an atmosphere that combines hypnotic and impulsive rhythms with dark and dissociative atmospheres.
Shelley channels her love for deeper electronics and transforms it into beautiful sonic realms. It didn't take long for her style to be recognized, and she was able to create impressive sets for such as Diffuse Reality, Indefinite Pitch, Fur:ther Sessions, Crescent London, Artscope and more.
Also Eric Cloutier invited her to play her first gig at Tresor in Berlin where she could prove her skills in front of a decent crowd.

Approach 1:

If I had to choose a country whose techno I could only listen to, I would probably choose Spain. Even though the decision would be difficult, as it would mean giving up artists like Shed! There is little techno that is as energetic, dynamic, fierce, and passionate, yet so trippy, inviting, and full of groove as Spanish techno. This is the feeling I want to create and convey with the podcast. It makes sense to broaden the focus a bit and mix in material from the UK – you can just hear the industrial revolution, the fiery spirit it reflects. The overarching theme is therefore Spanish techno music, supplemented with music from different parts of the world that, for me, brings a similar vibe.


Approach 2:

For me, the former Berghain system embodies techno music. I wanted to use music that seemed made for this place. The old F1 sound system combined with the unmistakable reverb downstairs has accompanied and shaped me for the past 16 years. If I were to receive an evening slot today, I would play in this direction. This set is, of course, a condensed version, but I think the essence comes across.

Approach 3:
Hardness doesn't come from BPM! For me, there is little straight 4x4 techno above 140 BPM that has enough room to breathe and enough space to really create groove with low-end and syncopation. This is why I rarely play faster than 138 BPM. I find that between 134 and 138, you can draw out an incredible amount of dynamics and tension. The BPM range in this podcast is between 134 and 136, and I feel that the arc of tension works perfectly.


Approach 4:

You often see short clips on social media where people are mixing with 6-8 turntables. That's why I deliberately decided against a third or fourth CDJ/turntable. I wanted to show that if the music is well-produced and has sufficient dynamic range you can create an incredible amount of tension and flow with just two decks.

In this spirit: Less is more... Isn’t that what techno is all about?

DJ-Set: Wice [Feb 2016]

Music enthusiast since many years,
now recently with some own productions.

After the first transitions were played in 2008 and the first steps in music production were taken in 2009, Wice developed an unprecedented love for sound, polyrhythm and frequency. More and more it turned out – retrospectively – that this sonic relationship was the perfect means for Wice to subjectively channel his innermost, to introspectively surrender to sound and texture, and to work towards the eventual moment at which he could say: ‘Cool, now I finally have the technical means to externalize all that doesn’t want to be said, merely through frequencies.’ Driven by the insight that there always will be more steps to climb, Wice had to acknowledge that this kind of music will accompany him for a lifetime. In 2017 he finally decided to start his own label ‘Steinlach’ with his good friend Ingo and Wice’s first solo record ‘Hedonism’ was released. Although achieving international success with this release had not been the intended goal, things fortunately turned out differently: Throughout 2017, the track ‘Just Kiddin” was played almost every weekend in well-known clubs and at reputable festivals around the world. With it, Wice even won a golden ‘Raving Spoon’ in the category ‘The Perfect Tracks’. Further releases on Shlomi Aber’s ‘Be As One’, Darko Essers/Tripeo’s ‘Wolfskuil’, Deepa’ and Biri’s ‘Black Crow’ as well as on the in-house label Steinlach followed. The affiliated digital-only sublabel ‘Weisse Elster’ was launched in 2021 with the EP ‘Ape Layers’. WEL002 (‘Seragard’) followed in March 2022. CAT No.003 & 004 are already scheduled for this years late summer respectively winter.
