Tharn is the dub techno project of interdisciplinary artist Sam Ashton, originally from London and now based in Portland, Oregon. Best known for his ambient work as Fortresses, with releases on Dragon's Eye Recordings and Flaming Pines, Ashton brings the same rich sense of atmosphere and detail to Tharn.

Tharn's new EP, Reach, follows the debut EP Seek, released on Belgian label Crossfade Sounds in spring 2025, serving as both a sequel and companion piece. Where Seek reflected the winter gloom and constant rain of the Pacific Northwest, Reach opens into light: stripped down, immediate, and radiant, like sunlight breaking through misty trees, carrying silver linings and quiet optimism. Hushed field recordings of Oregon's forests thread through the mix, while ghostly, hypnotic vocal lines rise above sporadic dub chords and ambient guitar swells, giving the music a luminous focus across its two tracks, "Reach" and "Last."

Welcome to my world! 
It's getting bigger everyday.

My music isn't very categorised. I have quite some categories I think. I just want to make everything I think of when I hear synths and sounds and even sing along when I feel like.

A lot of experimenting, f*cking around and finding out, getting happily lost in the world of sounds 🥰 Meanwhile trying to master the endless possibilities of digital music making. FL Studio, a midi keyboard and me.

I am building this world to give an extra dimension to my current (musical) reality as a piano teacher and choir conductor.
🌬 Life is demanding and I need a way out sometimes (often!).

This summer I'll try to share more of that world. With almost 200 tracks on soundcloud it's time to go next level! ☀️

A big, big, big thank you for all my followers, supporters and all the creators here on Soundcloud. It's very inspiring and uplifting to hear and to be in touch with so many amazing musicians!

Being selected to NEW18 in 2024 has reassured me to proceed this trip into electronic music 😍
