To close out the year, we’re bringing you a very special Carhartt WIP Radio episode featuring none other than Alan Daniel Maman – better known as @thealchemistofficial

A globally-renowned producer and DJ, celebrated for his significant contributions to hip hop, Alchemist grew up in the Westside of LA, immersed in skateboarding, graffiti, and music.

Alchemist started out as a rapper in the early 90s in the duo The Whooliganz, but his breakthrough as a producer came later in the decade, making beats for Dilated Peoples and Mobb Deep. By the early 2000s, Alchemist had risen to prominence with his signature sample-based production, which blended elements of jazz, soul, and psychedelic rock. This led to collaborations with rappers like Nas, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, and Ghostface Killah.

In 2004, Alchemist released his debut album “1st Infantry,” and his sophomore album “Chemical Warfare” in 2009, which featured contributions from Eminem, Pusha T, Talib Kweli and Twista. A slew of collaborative projects also followed, such as “Rare Chandeliers” with Action Bronson, “Alfredo” with Freddie Gibbs, and “Continuance” with Curren$y.

For this year’s final show, Alchemist delivers an exclusive mix that transports us back to 2000, a pivotal year marked by his move to New York, when he would cross paths with Mobb Deep’s Prodigy and Havoc. I was born on February 24th, 1970
The day I was delivered

My perfect father had many flaws

Childhood catching on beatings
Sexually touched and abused
Never seen life in a school
The price of being iconic
Was demonic and screwed
I stood on stage and had to
