Rising from the storied history of is a new concept imprint ‘Astral’. Meaning ‘of the stars’ - Astral can be thought of an ecstatic, mystical out-of-body experience, wherein the spiritual traveller leaves the physical body and travels in an astral body onto ‘higher' realms.

Astral Records continues a strong start to the label by welcoming Wielki for his debut EP. The French artist has risen from an era of synthesizer pioneers, creating a sound that is both musically rich and rhythmically fresh.

Always looking to tell a story within his productions, the Paris resident has already found a home on Armada's Electronic Elements & collaborated with Joris Delacroix. Having contributed a release to label affiliate Movement Recordings in 2019, Wielki now debuts on Astral Records with ‘Maelström' alongside a remix from Binaryh.

Beginning with the title selection Wielki crafts a spirited progressive techno hybrid. Anchored by a punchy groove, charged rhythms and devilish effects, it's both foreboding and mysterious from the outset. Evolving smoothly, astral arps and warm chord changes create a contrary yet compelling narrative leading in the main break. Choir-like pads initiate the centrepiece, sending it further into cosmic territory with tastefully tense modulation and a deadly drop which spearheads a chugging finale.

The companion piece ‘Minuit Une' sits as a perfect complement with its dynamic dance floor appeal. It's deliberate beats & subterranean groove set the foundation for percussive rides & squelchy synth splashes. Rising modulation peaks anticipation leading into the break, where wonky arps melt down to tonal tension & buzzing sonics as groove drops for spirited conclusion.

The lone interpretation of ‘Maelström' is provided by Binaryh who also make their label debut. The Brazilian duo found success early on in their career with a string of releases on Steyoyoke's ‘Black' division, before later finding a home on Black Rose, Timeless Moment and Sprout. Now regularly appearing in the sets of trendsetting DJs such as Tale of Us, Adriatique, Fideles, Fur Coat, Nicole Moudaber and Kevin de Vries; Binaryh debuts on Astral with a gorgeous rendition of ‘Maelström'.

Setting the piece in motion is a foundation of warm beats, galloping bass stabs and percussive waves. Choir-like pads complement the rippling foundation, creating an amazing sense of space as momentum continues to build. Furthering the emotive appeal of the Original version, the Brazilian duo go one step further with a trance inspired interlude that is not only hugely poignant but tastefully reflective. An inspired remix from Binaryh which furthers Astral Records rising presence in the world of melodic house and techno.

Selection six finds collection curator Wielki returning to the label for his fourth appearance. The French artist has risen from an era of synthesizer pioneers, creating a sound that is both musically rich and rhythmically fresh. Always looking to tell a story within his productions, the Paris resident has found a comfortable home on Movement Recordings having released three projects with the label over the last eighteen months. Joining Wielki and also returning to the label is Reig. Residing in Corsica, the French artist has been crafting a unique brand of melodic techno since first appearing in 2013. Releases on Aftertech Records, Steyoyoke and Traüm Schallplatten highlight his discography, while he remains a prominent figure in his country's nightlife, having performed alongside Agoria, N'to, Worakls, Etienne de Crécy and Simian Mobile Disco. Having delivered a stunning remix of Paul and Don's Hephaestus' in 2019, Reig now pairs with Weilki for the peak time jaunt Incandescenza'.

French imprint Way Of House are back again with another on-point cut of sound, this time longs-tanding label artist Wielki, teams up with Marseille producer Sara Zinger. A merging of the fizzling electronic production of Wielki, with the darker techno traits of Sara Zinger, make for a dazzling EP.
The original of ‘Closer’ works electric fused 4/4 beats around a hypnotic vocals and encapsulating dark grooves, for a slightly downtempo chugger that will get the dancefloor moving. On the remix from first comes fellow French talent Cät Cät, who delivers a minimal and driven club focused cut, before Alda round things off.

The latest release from Tash’s Movement Recordings finds the label presenting the latest installment of it’s ‘Technical Progress’ series. Conceptualized in 2010 these various artists showcases have grown into one of the underground’s most critically acclaimed series, continually featuring some of electronic music’s most highly touted artists alongside talented newcomers. Now embarking on their tenth edition, Movement invites Rodrigo Lapena, Gonzalo Sacc, Circle of Life, Wielki, Futur-E, Integral Bread, Ryan Dupree and Tal Fussman to contribute to this momentous installment. 
Wielki delivers a dark and mysterious track with ‘Illon De Plania’. Having delivered his ‘Excelsior’ EP for the label in September of last year, the French artist returns with another dramatic creation. Tough and chugging, it’s a groovy trip backed by punchy beats, lively rhythms and fragmented melodies, the latter of which descends over the framework, perfectly setting up a tense break, before a buzzing drop seals it’s brilliance.

Wielki is a French electronic music DJ and producer whose approach to melodic techno is laced with atmospheric and dark undertones.
 
Classically piano-trained, Wielki was introduced to electronic music at a very young age through the compositions of Jean-Michel Jarre and Eric Serra. He later on started expressing a keen interest towards the underground culture and lists Stephan Bodzin and Vitalic as some of his main influences. Passionate about ancient history, Wielki conveys an intense, martial and epic dimension to his music. Constructed in a cinematic manner, his tracks always tell a story, oscillating between pure energy and melancholy.

His debut EP “Empire” released on Way Of House and Armada Electronic Elements was widely-acclaimed. Then he was subsequently part of Joris Delacroix’s nationwide “Night Visions” tour as the supporting act, which gave him the opportunity to perform his first live acts. “Sky’s Only A Memory”, “Contemplation”, “Talisman” and even “Imagine” continue his captivating and melodic journey.
