WIELS présente OBSTAKLES, une rétrospective d’envergure de l'œuvre de Willem Oorebeek (né en 1953 aux Pays-Bas), artiste néerlandais vivant et travaillant à Bruxelles depuis les années 1990. Depuis plusieurs décennies, parallèlement à la génération dite « Pictures », Oorebeek a exploré l'impact de l'image ainsi que l'érosion et l'inflation de l'expérience du regard causées par la reproduction en masse des images.

WIELS presenteert OBSTAKLES, een groot overzicht van het werk van Willem Oorebeek (Nederland, 1953). Hij woont en werkt sinds de jaren '90 in Brussel. Parallel aan de 'pictures generation' onderzoekt Oorebeek al decennialang de impact van beelden en de erosie en inflatie van de kijkervaring als gevolg van massareproductie van het beeld.

Rhea Anastas is a curator and art historian based in Los Angeles. She co-founded Orchard, a cooperative gallery in New York's Lower East Side (2005-2008), with artists Moyra Davey, Andrea Fraser, Christian Phillip Mueller, Jeff Preiss, R. H. Quaytman, and Jason Simon, among others. She teaches in the Department of Art, University of California, Irvine.
