Nervous Nellie – Gloves EP

The year is 1988. In a posh Chicago suburb five unsuspecting kids are called to the family room in which they rarely are allowed. “We are moving to Sweden”.  Information served by parent’s execution style.  For Henrik this news was an especially heavy blow. At the age of nine he was making real friends & for the first time ever planning for the future. Junior high, baseball, basketball, kissing that girl… Surely a move to Sweden would be good news for allot of people but these five kids had already been thrown back & fourth across the Atlantic enough times to not know what & where home was. 25 years later the thorn may be smaller but the sense of not really belonging ever apparent. 

Nervous Nellies most recent effort “Gloves EP” portrays a person looking at the past & present through adult eyes. Trying to piece it all together & come to terms with who he/she has become & why. “Gloves” is a dark & pulsating track that flirts with the soulful but works itself into an emotional explosion of indie guitars & vocals. “Eaten by bears” with its higher bpm deals with lingering nightmares through a Smiths scented chorus.  In “Complicator” Henriks confused relationship to the US is dressed up as a slick & sexy girl. The song at times sounding like a mix between 70’s era disco boots & a ransom note. The EPs final number “Oh Sweet Berlin” is a contemplative & atmospheric piece painted on a canvas of midi strings, one could call it cinematic. It’s one of those small yet big tunes.


Even musically Nervous Nellie has over the years tried to find their logical place & it seems that they just might have finally found a home.
