We first met Shaggemy Beadle aka Des Hagenasty at a northern soul all nighter up at the Mansfield miners welfare social club. He was selling counterfeit packets of amber leaf and Chinese research amphetamines in the toilets and we thought to ourselves this guys a bit of us. Many years and countless after parties together later we finally invited him to play at a Flex. This is probably one of our favourite guest sets we’ve had in a long time and it even features THAT kebab tune. Get stuck in. x

Sunday Mix: Lukas Wigflex

I’ve told this story before but this time I have a mix to go with it so I’ll tell it again…Twenty years ago, during the early noughties when garage was mutating into grime I DJ’d in a crew with a load of mc’s called Riot Squad. We thought we were Nottingham's version of the Pay As U Go Cartel.

UK music was super fertile around those years and this was the first little pocket of my record buying “career” I found myself truly obsessed with. Parties, tape packs and radio was starting to get muckier with the focus shifting to MC’s. You could smell the influence that infamous little club up the road in Sheffield had on me a mile off and while the roots were starting to poke through, dubstep was still a few years away.. 

Decided to record a mix of the records I was playing up here during those times. Some of them are well known, some of them I don’t even know what the fuck they are. All bangers though and all have been getting played for nearly 20 years so excuse the noise, crackles and pops. x

Lukas Wigflex - The Land Before Grime.

Back in April I was asked to record a mix for an online music platform that I was really excited about.. but after a turbulent year full of endless twists and turns it unfortunately never ended up being shared.

It’s been sitting on me hard drive ever since but it features an Al Green & Beatrice Dillon blend and if there’s one good thing to have come out of 2020 its that Beatrice Dillon album.

I recorded this around the same time as my Crack Sunday mix came out and wanted the two to go in polar opposite directions of one another. As that one was semi ambient and slow, this one is full throttle, balls to the wall and full of end of the world steppers. 

Might not be the one for your NYE countdown, but if you’re looking for something a bit more crunchy for that kitchen crack on slap it on. x
