Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. This is our full inbox from the week beginning Mon 16 December 2024: from Friday afternoon you'll be able to hear our shortlist and pick your favourites on this week's Listening Post which will appear at freshonthenet.co.uk/batch554

If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

We are happy to welcome Vietnam born and France raised newcomer NairLess on Slam City Jams. After releases on Radiant Records, Semi Delicious and his own Aurore 404 imprint, the Parisian joins the label with his „First Wave“ EP.

NairLess music is deeply rooted in 90s house music and these tunes are a perfect example for that: „First Wave“ and „Rising Edge“ are a nod to early Progressive House with deep pads, sparkling synths and driving percussive elements. „Space Union“ is a bouncy house tune build around a catchy organ melody from everyones favorite digi synth. To round things off we have rising star Running Hot on remix duties who turns the title track up a notch with lovely rave stabs that will tear up some festival stages this summer.

The first outing of the new label Way to France records, born in Leipzig and raised in Cologne (including an extra long puberty), comes from none other than Robert Johnson legend Lauer.
The title track Law High heads straight for peak time in classic Lauer style between synth-pop, wave and house. Extraordinary DJ Charlie from Berlin transforms Law High into an analog-sounding EBM-Italo stomper with her first remix ever.
On B1 Lauer shows his other side with Enso: Techno Soul in the melody-man manner. Enso got the remix treatment from Leipzig's highly talented Janthe, who (another remix premiere) pulls off a modern, froggy, timeless version that's playable on any occasion. WTF Records headquarter is more than proud (and happy) to have so much talent on their catalog number 001.

The story of the hammer

A man wants to hang a painting. He has the nail, but not the hammer. Therefore it occurs to him to go over to the neighbor and ask him to lend him his hammer. But at this point, doubt sets in. What if he doesn’t want to lend me the hammer? Yesterday he barely spoke to me. Maybe he was in a hurry. But maybe the haste was just an excuse, and he has something against me. But why? I didn’t do anything to him. If he would ask me to lend him something, I would, at once. How can he refuse to lend me his hammer? People like him make other people’s life miserable. Worst, he thinks that I need him because he has a hammer. This has got to stop! And suddenly the guy runs to the neighbor’s door, rings, and before letting him say anything, he screams: “You can keep your hammer, you bastard!”

Aber vielleicht war die Eile nur vorgeschützt, und er hat etwas gegen mich. Und was? Ich habe ihm nichts angetan; der bildet sich da etwas ein. Wenn jemand von mir ein Werkzeug borgen wollte, ich gäbe es ihm sofort. Und warum er nicht? Wie kann man einem Mitmenschen einen so einfachen Gefallen abschlagen? Leute wie dieser Kerl vergiften einem das Leben. Und dann bildet er sich noch ein, ich sei auf ihn angewiesen. Bloß weil er einen Hammer hat. Jetzt reicht's mir wirklich. – Und so stürmt er hinüber, läutet, der Nachbar öffnet, doch noch bevor er "Guten Tag" sagen kann, schreit ihn unser Mann an: "Behalten Sie Ihren Hammer, Sie Rüpel!"

Though this song was initially directed at the conservative justices on SCOTUS, it really encompassed our choices regarding the direction for this country. We must keep in mind that the court's balance could be pushed even further toward an extreme conservative ideology. We are now in uncharted territory, though the direction the newly reelected president plans to take is VERY clear.
