More pure badness from the one and only Mosca – as he returns with two Cedar Wood State mixes that have taken nearly eight months of editing, tweaking and road-testing. The Vector Mix has already been aired in the likes of Leon Vynehall's Essential Mix. Now comes the Volt Mix – a squelchy, loopy, choppy number which spins Battery Brain through a thousand outboard filters, delays and effects. In Mosca's own words, it embodies "melting Miami, Rio, a field just outside the M25 and The Bronx into modern-day London."

Both Vector and Volt "Cedar Wood State" drop on 23rd May (vinyl) and 10th June (digi) via Not So Much.

Piff Records pulls a petal from it’s 004 with Subjoi, recruiting Adam Emil - who featured on the track Paradise back in September - and Slim Hustla who go twos on the new EP, “Travellers”. 

Emil’s side features A1’s “Genuine”, driven by auto-tuned contemporary style vocals that ice all over the melancholy synth work, giving way to “Hovedspring” which presents itself as liquid drum and bass at house tempo - intricate drum programming and trance palet of ambient sounds, well padded throughout. 

Slim Hustla takes over the B side, complimenting the ethereal sounds of Emil, first with “Newfound Love” - no less than a synth work out - dripping with arpeggiated notes that open up to their fullest, bouncing between stabs and waves of atmosphere electronics. “We Forget that the Water Cycle and the Life Cycle Are One” takes the beat format of electro, mobilized by acoustic drum sounds, setting the listener up for a full-blown acid hardcore breakbeat closer on “Midnight in Copenhagen”.

After a brief hiatus our unsigned series is back. Producers who have appeared on the series so far have been approached by labels and subsequently had material released by them after we helped shed some light on the new talents. We hope we're able to do the same with the next one in the series, coming from Thodén. Get to know a little about him below:

Hey my names Kris, I'm 20 and a student based in Manchester. Been DJ'ing and producing for a little less than 2 years now. This track is a culmination of all the things I'm into at the moment, namely breaks and some of the higher bpm electronic stuff. Really wanted to capitalise on the euphoric feel that the combination of the synth and breaks provided. Once I got those down it was all about adding to and enhancing the atmosphere, using echoey vocal chops, a 303 and that final synth line that rounds the track off. Was important to create an effective buildup between sections too, gating the synth and filtering the breaks did the trick there. 
I'm still learning the ins and outs of production, haven't been at this very long. Stumbled upon the 'unsigned' series and its perfect for this kind of thing, glad I can use it as a platform for sharing some of what I make.

Since the drop of their debut EP back in 2016, Peckham duo @athlete-whippet have been developing and refining their own blends of warm, gung-ho, funky house - finding a further compelling embodiment in their latest ‘Corporate Guy‘ EP, featuring @baltra and Danvers on remix duty. The boombox blasted the very best in vibrations radio, a sound which had become synonymous with the beats on the street. It was loud and aggressive, the bass distorted and raw - exactly as it was supposed to be. 

It was a hot summer's day and they would play outside until dark, shootin' hoops and talkin' crap with their friends in the heat of the afternoon. In the distance the sound of sirens bellowed above skyscrapers and rooftops but that was not their world. They were kids from the borough and this was there home...

Saturday night had rolled into Sunday morning and the soft light of the day had begun to appear. The streets were secluded and quiet, but now and then a figure would come down the path, kicking up the rubbish that littered the floor in front of them. Like clockwork, every few minutes another figure would appear in the distance, fresh from a night of debauchery and frivolty... They were ready to stagger into the week ahead.

They may be a young label but Holding Hands have already proved they can run with the big dogs. Since launching in 2017, label head and DJ/producer Desert Sound Colony has notched up eight fresh releases, as well as two on his new offshoot Holding Hands Again, which unearths early slept-on tech house gems. For the next on his parent label he welcomes back Adam Pits— the Leeds-based producer who debuted on the imprint in 2018. "Ok yes… the world is sicker than ever, but that doesn't mean we get to stop.

The past months have seen long overdue eruptions of sadness and rage directed at bloated, militarized, racist police forces and iniquitous government spending around the world. The puzzle pieces are assembling and fresh eyes are examining corrupt practices that Black & brown communities have criticized for decades. It is time to defund the police and invest in communities that have been systemically attacked.

For the third volume of Physically Sick, we are focusing on local efforts and raising money for Equality For Flatbush, an organization that has been fighting racist police abuse and gentrification since 2013. Equality For Flatbush mobilizes direct aid when necessary, recently ensuring Brooklyn residents have groceries and supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Techno, house, and all the sounds at the root of electronic dance music, are born from Black communities. Dance music can only be sustained by an inclusive joy for the marginalized and the dispossessed. As we rally in support of Black lives and the struggles against police violence and inequality, it is the responsibility of every person, from DJs to dancers, not to let things slide back to business as usual.

Physically Sick 3 is a fundraising compilation from Discwoman & Allergy Season curated by Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson, Umfang, and Physical Therapy. All proceeds from the compilation will go to Equality For Flatbush. Out Thursday July 3rd, 2020 and available exclusively through Bandcamp. "
