"Wild Life Society’s “Evil 
Stares” drives a killer, pumping beat and sports 
a strained vocal delivery that sounds as if the 
lead singer were actually being carried aloft  by 
a mighty bird during production. While WLS’s 
latest cut is an eff ective tune from these local 
faves, it reminds me of a pressing spiritual irony. 
While in the actual ’80s, countless musicians 
took drugs to escape the music of the day. Yet 
judging by today’s sounds, contemporary youth 
are seemingly taking drugs to invoke the sound of
