Live from Evolvefest 2013

Here we go, world, on our next journey around the sun! May this year bring peace, time for play, and a feeling of friendship to people everywhere. Here's a holiday gift to start the year with a chuckle: a bouncy, kitschy blend of 11 Acorn Lane's song "Be My Friend" and Adam Berger's song "Let's Go." The songs fit together perfectly. I laughed so much crafting this remix! Happy New Year to the family that's as big as the entire universe.

Based out of NYC, Wild Smile is a unique social event where families gather to play, relax and interact in a unique yoga class followed by a free-form dance party. At Wild Smile, parents and children alike lose tense frowns and loosen tight limbs as they help each other balance in dancer’s pose, learn basic fandango, and then frolic together on the friendliest dance floor around.

Wild Smile begins with a playful and dynamic yoga class led by Jess, an experienced & certified yoga instructor for children and adults. Kids and their caregivers integrate body, mind and laughing spirit with breathing exercises, partner yoga poses, noncompetitive games and creative movement suitable for all body types & abilities. After this 45-minute warm-up, the beat drops and everyone’s invited to express themselves any way the music moves them. Expect unexpected mashups of nursery rhymes, world music, electronic beats and classic tracks in a unique hour-long dance party featuring Jess, aka DJJJ on the decks. It is carefully crafted and mixed into a surefire way to get siblings centered, work up a healthy sweat and shake your groove thang before naptime. Plus, 5% of proceeds are donated to Tamarindo Foundation to support a community wellness center & yoga classes for families in rural El Salvador.

In essence, Wild Smile Family is a joyful celebration of families, especially the one that’s as big as the entire universe! It’s a participatory experiment in the way that music, art and yoga harmonize our relationships and resonate in our bodies and in our communities. Parents and children learn to see each other in new ways as adults stretch into silliness and kids demonstrate leadership and strength. By joining together in play, song and dance, we enliven our relationships, invite bright laughter into our bellies, and turn the corners of our mouths up into — well, you know…!
