Sometimes you need a song to comfort you and  lift you up a bit. This is one of  THOSE songs.

Just Because

Back On A Cloud

This album is a follow-up album to my "What's Gonna Become of Us" by Wilfred Kozub project that I did in 2015. That one was an instrumental album, and it remains one of my very favourite works that I created. It is the only album of mine that I listen to regularly.

I wanted to do another instrumental album in the same vein. But a few new songs with lyrics came to me magically and mysteriously. I wasn't expecting that, but I liked them so much that I decided to change my plans and create a balance of those new vocal songs, some new instrumental tracks, and a couple others that I never really found a home for – until I finally decided to make them part of "The Last Vibrations of Summer".

I like this new album very much. As an album, it hangs together very smoothly. It is very satisfying for me, and I hope it will be for you, too.

Coming Home

A song 45 years in its making. A newly arrived teenager from across the  water was cajoled into 'writing songs', and being the ever-easygoing chap he (still) is - he proffered this. Little did he know it would come back to Colorado to remind him of a youth in Kalamunda. Thanks for the shared experience, RGS - especially the education in music. Here's to your 21,885th day, have a happy one.

With You In Mind

Picking up shadows from last century. This one is forty years old this year. The recording, however, isn't. Misato Okuyama is the voice in there that takes this a little closer to heaven.

Passenger Seat

A winsomg written in a King's Cross hotel room overlooking Sydney Harbour. Taken back to Perth and placed in the caring hands and additional backing vocal from Mark Fisher, and producer Russell Bell's finesse. Elizabeth Segal was there to add harmony and waltz around the control room. A little later, Rob Ellis added bass to give the song some ball, thus making it more of a ballad. Strings and keys arranged and played by the composer.

Lost Out At Love

For little Luna. "Everyone there will know me well, and those who don't can go ..." Featuring the mellow backing tones of Al Parvez and Kerry Stevens. A bitterly emancipated Rob Ellis pleads from the bridge.

I Know I Will Go To Heaven

In A Minute x3 is track 3 on the new album, “I’m In Love With The City,” by us guys, Wilfred N & the Grown Men. Nik Kozub also did a remix of this for our album … “In A Minute x 3 (the Paronomasiac remix)” – Nik Kozub being said Paronomasiac. Do we love it?  Yes! We love it!

Here’s a little true story for ya … One day I was on an undergound train with my headphones on, loudly playing an early mix of this song. It was the end of a work day and, at the next stop, eight or ten tired-looking, regular pudgy people got on the train car, and all of them – pretty much simultaneously – fell asleep in their seats. It was a beautiful and unusual ‘video’ that unfolded in my brain as my song played ‘doo doo doo’. I imagined a little animated space guy, with a glass bubble around his head, flying to each person asleep, eyes closed, in the train … having a close up little look. The scene, part real and part in-my-head, was wonderful. The little space guy came from my memory of Sammi the Spaceman in the Little Lulu and Tubby comics from when I was a kid. The scene was a full-on movie … fantastic! My imagination struck out other scenarios as the song progressed. I imagined a possibly friendly, (at least we were all naïve enough … or desperate for something to make our world better – to want to think they were friendly) soft invasion of a cheery, animated alien race, arriving to exchange their (supposed) lovely lives with our less lovely lives. (“I love my life, I love your life … I love our life.  I LOVE LIFE!”)

 

In the final scene, where the crowd stadium cheering comes in, there is a band singing those words with a joyous (but with suggestions of something ominous) union of our people with their people. Wonderful. And scary. Meanwhile, the guy in the video is texting or fiddling with his personal phone device

 

… “in a minute I’ll be thinking of something else – nothing can get in the way of love.”   Yeah, this is the video-of-my mind for this tune. I guess the song might have been called In A Minute text text text. Who’s playing? The robust drums on this track are by Clint Frazier, and that’s Jamie Philp playing the rippin’ electric guitar lines. Thanks, guys! I did the vocals, keyboards, sleighbells/shaker and acoustic guitars. Nik captured Jamie and Clint with brilliance in the studio.

The Spring Single Thingy comes hot on the heels of  Wilfred N & the Grown Men's 2013 EP/album – “I’m In Love With The City”. This was quite a different project for us (Everything's a different project for us these days!! Who cares? . . . WE DO!!!) . . . a bit more of an experimental adventure, for sure. Ok. Here is some info about me, Wilfred. Music is a big thing in my life . . . I’ve been tuning into radio since I was a little kid (on a crystal set – rocket radio!) and I grew up with access to a large record collection (vinyl and, later . . . everything else that followed).  I was lucky to be a teen during a very musically fertile time – when the Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and tonnes of other greats were creating fresh music for my fresh ears. To this day, I like it when an artist has his own sound but doesn't sound 'all the same' , , , and this is what I try to do.  Most of my own music is written for records by my group, Wilfred N & the Grown Men. I also love making experimental music.
