Thought I had lost this recording forever! (It's a pretty poor mono recording, sorry!) This was performed at The Code, a sound and light installation in Holy Trinity Church, Leeds in June 2017, organised by Kate Lloyd.

It's a musical representation of Pascal's Triangle (known to ancient Indian mathematician, Pingala, as The Staircase of Mount Meru), in which the rows are justified to all be the same length and each row given to a different performer. Performers played from video scores which simply read C when a C was to be played etc. and were free to improvise and embellish at will. It is expandable for an ensemble of any size and ability, and any instrument can be used. I was lucky enough to have the following turn up and play:

Mount Meru

Contact mics hooked up to a clothes horse, a record rack, a soldering iron stand, a wire basket all being bowed and plucked, plus one on a lamp being switched on and off. recorded in multitrack, but is a sketch for an all in one group performance.

Cheap Delays

Recorded a mix but only playing the lock groove at the end of the records. Was looking for interesting cross-rhythms, Reich-phasing effects, wonky rhythms, and matched beats at points. I'm assuming this kinda thing has been done by someone at some point, if you know who by, comment it or something. I guess it's kind of a boring version of Graham Dunning's Mechanical Techno so check that out cos it's way better.

Thanks to LUUMS Chamber Orchestra for playing this piece! One of the themes for the concert was pastiche, so I wrote something estimating a Philip Glass pastiche, only with more silence in it.

This is one of 5 of these (I deleted the others to free up space), which I uploaded in october 2018, as simulations to demonstrate what my proposed installation for inSonic 2018 @ ZKM would sound like to walk through. The others are the same structure just different iterations/sets of harmonics. As an installation, there are 10 pairs of speakers along a path, each speaker pair is a step through Euclid's Algorithm sonified as a single sine wave of that numbered harmonic.

I did a piece called "cheap delays" a couple of years ago. It was about me leaving the guitar behind and just using the pedals i had left over as a sort of a child's version of a modular. Nowadays electronic stuff is pretty much all I do, so I challenged myself to revisit this - to do another improv with the same cheap pedals, but applying what I know now, hence a karplus-strong thing with the delays. (disclaimer: occasionally there's a bit of synth to excite the delays but it's mostly contact mics)
