Miftah Bravenda tries to look for the eye of the storm in the wild, unhinged percussive trip that is “In the Middle of My Chaos There Was You.” Dubstep, trip-hop, with ambient bliss adorns the trip. A kaleidoscopic array of colors pops throughout the duration. It sometimes feels psychedelic, for Miftah creates this hypnotic groove within the many layers. Quite a skilled producer, Miftah helps to sculpt this fully immersive, cohesive atmosphere that washes over the listener. Allowing the duration to play an essential role in the buildup further gains a particular poignancy.

 Burial’s murkier, stately approach to dubstep appears throughout. Miftah takes a similarly subtle approach to songwriting, letting the energy ebb and flow to give it a living, breathing quality. The trip-hop flavor indeed nods to the noir vibes of Portishead, as it makes sure to go for a soundtrack-like flair in certain moments. Going further along, the ambient flow seems to draw from the Orb’s loopiest, most-spaced-out moments. A nice mixture of the old and new, Miftah is particularly well-listened, going for this surrounding sea of sound that feels downright glorious.

Hazy markers of the synthesizer stabs start things out. Giant beats go for the bombastic. It is enormous, with the sprawl of the song becoming all-consuming. The way that the evolution of the groove goes feels downright inspirational. Within the melodies, there’s a tenderness, a softer spot, even amidst the more significant gestures. A clear ear for melody runs throughout the journey, allowing this sense of peace to wash over the listener. Layer upon layer means that the evolution of the track continues with the overall feeling of longing. Tiny details get magnified within the song, thanks to how they are treated, amplified, and wafted to the sky. Including more shoegaze effects halfway through helps transform it into an almost dream-pop atmosphere.

“In the Middle of My Chaos There Was You” takes a clever, hybrid approach to showing the power of the instrumental. Miftah Bravenda’s muscular take on percussion feels doubly refreshing, a fascinating hybrid of classic and contemporary.
