On his new album Chott, German-Tunisian producer and composer Taroug confronts his origins. Named after the Chott El Djerid, a vast salt lake in southern Tunisia, the ten-track album revolves around personal history and the search for identity. Chott is a conceptual work shaped by contrasting atmospheres, from minimalistic melancholy to raw, bass-heavy intensity. It blends traditional instruments with contemporary electronic textures, drawing lines between past and present. 

Personal materials—such as vocal samples from family members—add layers of intimacy and cultural depth, most notably on the title track, featuring an original Arabic poem spoken by Taroug’s father, and on 1995, a song reflecting on early childhood memories in Tunisia. Beyond these intimate dimensions, he works with sonic imagery that captures the sensory experience of heat and landscape in pieces like Saraab and Sirocco. In Nakhla, recordings of palm trees transformed into repetitive movements evoke scenes of southern Tunisia’s palm plantations, where organic and mechanical sounds converge. 

For the artwork, Taroug once again collaborated with architect and designer Marie Brosius, assembling an experimental collage from old personal photographs of Tunisia that visually echoes the album’s themes of heritage and remembrance.

Berlin-based DARKDISCO.ORG summons the shadows once more with "Night Fatale" EP, a decisive offering from Italian conjurer Michele Sfregola under his SFRMHL mantle. This project exists precisely where Dark Disco, subterranean club currents, and late-night intuition converge. Available digitally and on weathered cassette, the EP unfolds as a hypnotic suite propelled by arterial basslines, analogue warmth, and an unwavering noir sensibility. It maps a terrain where neon haze, clandestine spaces, and unwavering rhythms dissolve the border between allure and threat. For its expanded voyage, the release recruits a formidable cadre of reinterpreters: Kenny Kampbell, Vittorio di Mango, Shadowcomplex Feat. BLEACH ISB, Alpha Sect, and sch_tsch each pledge their distinct allegiances to the night’s cause.

Premiered here, "Dazzling Night" serves as the manifesto. SFRMHL engineers a magnificent, pressure-built chamber of rhythm and ache. A bassline of profound depth operates not as a mere foundation but as a magnetic force, pulling the listener into its wake. Over this, synth filaments spiral and gleam with a feverish, almost tactile luminescence, casting patterns against a ceiling of swirling atmospheric fog. The track cultivates a magnificent tension – it is the sound of the city breathing through vents, of dilated pupils adjusting to strobe-lit darkness, of movement that feels both inevitable and dangerously voluntary. It constructs an entire narrative within its rhythmic framework, a wordless tale of pursuit and surrender under an electric sky.

PREMIERE858 // SFRMHL - Dazzling Night

Whilst We Fall is the third album under Alex Leonard’s Dronal moniker, and one which he started writing way back in October 2019. The Dronal project has always been one with which he intended to merge his passion for ambient/drone music with that of field recordings, and with this release he wanted to investigate the blurred boundaries between the natural world and the one which we have created on top of it.

He considers it a love-letter to that nature which survives in the areas upon which humanity encroaches, but as the project developed he couldn’t help but find notes of sorrow entering the works, coming out of both grief and frustration at the loss of biodiversity, and the inadequate global reaction to the ongoing climate crisis. The front cover borrows its striated lines from a graph provided by NASA's Earth Observatory, measuring global temperature anomaly from 1880 to 2022 - an exponential fall into the red.

The initial ideas for the album came quickly, but were slowly developed over the following two years. Depth and an organic feel were provided by subtle use of field recordings from both natural and urban environments; fluidity and escape from grid structures were provided by multiple layered improvised takes with synthesisers and effects units in his Berlin studio.

The mixdowns were completed in early 2023, and the album was beautifully mastered by Porya Hatami, who has mastered albums by the likes of Arovane, Aidan Baker, Pausal, Andrew Tasselmyer and many more.

The end result is a soft and intimate collection of slowly morphing soundscapes, built on a somewhat mournful foundation, but with notes of hope overlain. The album envelops the listener, draws them close, and whispers.

This morning, I am listening to Nathan Fake's upcoming album, and I'm happy to share one of my favourite tracks with you. Nathan is an English electronic musician from Norfolk, widely recognised for his particular fusion of ambient, IDM, and techno. I will not slot his music into a specific genre, but if you're into the sounds of Jon Hopkins, Rival Consoles, John Tejada, Max Cooper, and Chris Clark, you will know where this fits. In fact, the latter even appears on this album, offering his microtonal 18EDO piano chords for one of the tracks. Besides releasing on James Holden's Border Community, Nathan also appeared on Ninja Tune and on his own Cambria Instruments imprint. The French InFiné is a great home for his next release, where he already shared a two-track single back in 2025. The upcoming Evaporator is not a real departure from his sound, but rather a slight shift into what he describes as "airy daytime music", balancing the above-mentioned stylistic elements into texturally rich soundscapes which are punctuated by a beat. Fans of Tycho's open-air car rides will appreciate the feeling of "big skies, endless landscapes and fresh air rushing against your face" as they play through the eleven tracks.

PREMIERE: Cyprien Noiriel - Tweaker Radio [Bella Ursa]

Nine Times is the fifth album released under the name Ebauche by Alex Leonard.

He had the idea in May 2023 to abandon the many machines he had available and focus his attention on a single tool: the compact and unique digital tape machine, the Bastl Thyme.

This exercise took on a life of its own. Initially he started with nothing more than the machine feeding back into itself, exploring ways to sculpt the sound. As he created more sketches, he varied things, for instance by feeding the ambience of the studio from a microphone into the machine, affecting it and feeding it back into itself to expose the machine's character beyond the ambient tone. Later, he introduced additional multi-effects units into the feedback chain.

He layered one take upon another, building upon and reacting to the sounds from the previous takes, slowly expanding each piece.

After an intensive period of composition, he allowed the pieces to 'age', so to speak, before returning to them later with fresh ears. In 2024, he edited the compositions into a more coherent form and finally mixed them in 2025.

The album was beautifully mastered by Porya Hatami, who is well known for his mastering work on albums by artists such as Arovane, Aidan Baker, Pausal, Andrew Tasselmyer, and many more.

The album artwork is the result of a collaboration between Adrianna Snochowska and Alex. Adrianna created a variety of textural, abstract experiments which they then photographed using an ultra-macro setup.
