It's really tough to let go of the one you used to love. At times, you can feel as though your life has no purpose. Yet, though you know you are supposed to move on -- you just won't. Something deep inside the abyss of sorrow and regret within your own heart won't let you, and, therefore, the constant reminder remains: what was and could have been. The candle in the windowsill isn't hope; it is denial, disbelief and, ultimately, a failure to move on. Are the things we never have, such as the idea or fantasy of a perfect relationship, also the things that hold us back? Do these things keep us in a perpetual state of regression and disillusionment? Does the heart, itself, become love's cage? How many of us have lighted the way back for the ghost of a failed relationship? How many are still fixated upon the glow from a single, quivering, dim-lit flame?
