These are selections from a recent project I was working on. In it, I tried to cover several genres, play both covers and original content, and feature as many of my instruments as possible. Instruments used in these recordings include double bass, electric bass, acoustic guitar, dulcimer, sitar, melodica, accordion, piano, organ, harpsichord, violin, and of course, vocals. This piece was initially created to 1) mourn the end of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign and 2) largely blur the distinctions between classical and concert music and electronic pop-oriented music. The latter of these points has definitely stayed the same over the past few months while the thematic content has drastically changed into abstractions of different cathartic experiences loosely organized according to the journey through the 7 main chakras of Tantric yogic practices. The piece starts very rough around the edges to emulate a live jam, as it was supposed to emulate a performance, something I’ve been missing throughout quarantine. Over the next few tracks, the sound gets more electronic to signal introspection, and the sound further abstracts into noise and beyond to represent an increased understanding of esoteric spirituality. Ultimately I want it to feel like you begin by listening to a live-streamed performance, and the music travels inside your brain and, eventually, your soul, as you are impacted by the art. I’ve been frustrated lately by the divide between my native classical music and the pop music I mainly consume and adore, so this piece is meant to act both as a piece of fixed media classical music/sound art with 7 movements, and also as a 7 track album of experimental electronic music. All the sounds you hear are performed live by myself and produced/mixed/mastered by myself as well, and this was definitely a quarantine project designed as an exercise for my emotions during this peculiar time. I’ve always liked Frank Zappa’s inclusion of his influences inside his first album so I’ll do the same here in no particular order: Bon Iver, Radiohead, Gyorgi Ligeti, Kanye West, Swamp Dogg, Olivier Messiaen, Jacob Collier, Brian Wilson, Captain Beefheart, Charles Ives, “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” soundtracks, The Master Musicians of Jakouka, The Beatles, the Dalai Lama, Igor Stravinsky, The Velvet Underground, Mike Dean, Moondog, punk rock, Gamelan music, Brian Jones, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Bela Bartok, Francis and the Lights, bluegrass music, Travis Scott, Georg Friedrich Haas, Gerard Grisey, Jean Michel Basquiat, Kid Cudi, Caroline Shaw, Edgar Meyer, Angelica Garcia, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and many others!!

This EP is meant to commemorate my mother's 50th birthday! She has been an amazing influence on me, and I thought it best to make several tracks about different lessons she taught me! The genres range from a sound collage, to an acoustic guitar solo, to a gospel/noise/glitch piece, so buckle up! Please listen with headphones for the best sound quality, and think about your mother while you listen to this. We are living extensions of our parents, and mothers, especially, are so vital in shaping who we are, and I am eternally grateful for the endless encouragement and empowerment I have received from my mother. :-)
