Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 1 fun fact about yourself?

SV: Hey hey I’m Sangre Voss (he/him), I live in SE London and I’m apparently somehow related to Hamlet so I think that must make me kind of weird.

WH: Hello! Thanks so much for having us Sasha!! My name is Will - my pronouns are he/him and I am also currently living in London, luckily not too far from Mr Voss! 

Not related to Hamlet, but I am in the background of an episode of Home & Away, although I sadly can’t remember which one

Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?

SV: My friend gave me a bubble machine as a house warming gift and when the sun hits right, I’ll put it on and sit underneath it. I’m not quite sure how this inspires me musically, but it feels so great that I think it must permeate through somehow.

WH: I’m looking after my parents cat atm and she’s so cute, definitely been a source of some kind of inspiration. It could be the early wake ups, or maybe I’m just jealous and wish I was allowed to sleep as much as her lol. She’d probably love to play with the bubble machine.

Favorite sound in nature? Describe how it makes you feel. 

SV: Difficult to choose but ice has a lot to offer. The sound of pebbles thrown on a frozen lake is definitely a favourite. Makes me want to tilt my head to the side and raise my eyebrows a bit.

WH: Ooh I like the icey sounds, that’s a good shout. Mine feels like a slightly more boring answer, but probably a stream or waves lapping at a shore. Pretty tough not to feel peaceful while hearing that 😇

If you had to describe yourself as an beverage, what would it be and why?

WH: Passiona - Aussie classic! Super delicious but a bit much sometimes.

SV: Buckfast abbey of Buckfast Tonic Wine fame isn’t far from where I grew up in Devon (UK) so it’s the (un)natural choice. I’m also sickly sweet and full of energy(?) so it works on a few levels.

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

WH: Always have to shout out Co-Select, although we’re a bit biased. Very recently went to a great party at a venue called Spanners and hope to go back there again soon, lovely 80 cap space with great sound. Lots of love for the Cheeky Soundsystem guys, and of course the Rye Wax crew (please come back soon)! 

So many around really, and loads of great new parties and crews seem to be springing up all the time here and I can’t wait to check them all out.

SV: I normally end up discovering Will on the dfloor when I’m out so not much to add here - I’ve been to a couple of Sagome events recently that I’ve really liked too though!

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

WH: I feel like I’m seeing really good efforts towards inclusive & diverse lineups which is great, but of course there’s always room for that to be better, especially on “bigger” lineups. 

I’d also like to see less aggro on the internet / in the industry in general. We’re all in it together! Let’s be friendly :) 

SV: yes yes and more genre-diverse nights are always welcome for me!

Optimo Music loves a bit of serendipity. We had been really digging all of 2023’s releases by Will Hofbauer, which ticked all our boxes, when an email dropped into JD Twitch’s in-box asking if we’d be interested in releasing some of his tracks. Would we ever!

Thus we are delighted to present 3 tracks of outer space bass dub designed for advanced danceflloors. We asked Will to tell us a bit about the tracks -

These three tracks right here are just a couple of Dingers!! They’re a bit different from my usual fare, so I’m super super happy for them to have found un espacio en Optimo! 

The first one, Diiing, was just a fun experiment with some funny vocals and faster drums. As for the other two, if Leech is a big old slug crawling through a damp cave, then Can Dub is a fun little skip through the woods. The enormous reach of dub’s influence is clearly running through all three of these, in my opinion, but defo in the last two :)

Overall, I just feel like I’m a massive fan who is lucky enough to have a crack at making and putting out stuff really. I’m super chuffed to be writing this little quote about this release! If you’ve read this far, I hope you enjoy the music!!

Singapore-born, London-based producer yingtuitive introduces herself with Letters To Self 寫情書, a deeply personal debut LP arriving on Will Hofbauer’s Third Place.

A classically trained pianist whose musical identity draws from Southeast Asian traditions, electronic experimentation, and diasporic reflection, yingtuitive crafts soundscapes that feel both intimate and expansive. The project is accompanied by two stunning reworks from esteemed creators: South Korean ambient duo Salamanda, known for their lush, meditative textures, and US artist Tristan Arp, celebrated for his organic, shape-shifting productions.

Across eight original compositions, Letters To Self 寫情書 unfolds as a sonic diary, a search inward, a series of tender emotional missives to the self. Gamelan-inspired textures glimmer alongside field recordings captured in Singapore and the UK, while delicate, improvised piano passages echo memories of home. These elements intertwine with fragments of film samples and experimental electronics, resulting in tracks that glide through ambient, ethereal, and blissful terrains. It’s music that floats and envelops, as though nature itself had grown into sound, serene and rich in emotional resonance.

Written during a period of deep reflection, the album meditates on identity, homesickness, belonging, and the overwhelming noise of the world outside. Each piece feels like a still moment within chaos, a soft conversation between past and present selves, where harmony emerges from internal conflict. From angelic piano melodies to glitchy bursts of experimentalism, yingtuitive bridges her Singaporean roots and UK influences with blissful grace. Letters To Self 寫情書 marks not just a debut release, but the formation of a unique musical voice, gliding between cultural languages with honesty, vulnerability, and quiet strength.

Sakura Tsuruta is a Tokyo-based artist who mixes up dreamy melodies with potent, experimental grooves. Her 2019 debut on Bardo Records broke into Beatport’s Top 100, and since then, she has dropped her acclaimed ‘Made of Air’ EP and two well-received full-lengths on Mule Musiq and all my thoughts. Tsuruta is also an educator who works with international universities and conservatories and an activist who champions gender equality and nurtures young artists globally.
