Description:

The psalmist speaks of deliverance from disease, disaster, and violence. The final verses switch to God’s voice, promising personal rescue, honor, and long life to the one who trusts in Him.

Hebrew Background:
This psalm may have been used as a protective invocation or prayer, possibly by priests or soldiers before battle. The image of God covering with “his feathers” evokes cherubim wings in the Holy of Holies, where God’s presence was said to dwell. It reflects a covenantal relationship: “Because he loves me... I will rescue him.” Early Jewish and Christian tradition also associated this psalm with spiritual warfare and angelic protection.
