All things are connected. That's the premise of everything that William J. Joel does, from university level teaching, to writing & illustrating children's books, to composing music. Each of Mr. Joel's areas of interest informs each other, which is just the way he likes it. Mr. Joel has been teaching computer science and related disciplines since 1983, and has been a professional storyteller since 1990. In 1995, he received a PhD in Computer & Information Sciences from Syracuse University. In the 1990's, with the advent of "user friendly" notation software, Mr. Joel resumed his passion for music composition which he began as a teen. Since then, he has composed numerous works, including Sketches for Piano, which was recorded by Access Contemporary Music. His works range from solos, duets & trios, to works for full orchestra. Mr. Joel's compositional style draws from a wide range of influences, from rock, folk & jazz, to early classical works, to more recent minimalist pieces. His works combine an innate sense of melody with various, often competing rhythms.
