At the vanguard of Melbourne's bustling underground music scene you’ll find Surprise Chef. A band very much on the rise, who with two exceptional albums under their belts, are picking up a rapidly swelling fanbase across the world. Working out of the College of Knowledge stable (their home / studio / record label namesake), the band’s take on instrumental cinematic soul and funk has connected with listeners across multiple scenes and genres. Their intoxicatingly laidback sound, which pairs expertly crafted hooks with a seriously funky, watertight rhythm section, has earned them a wide appeal and made their tracks ripe for interpretation.

Rounding off the package is the remix from https://soundcloud.com/harvey-sutherland. Having made international waves since 2013 with his unique take on dance music, Harvey has long been on https://soundcloud.com/mrbongo’s remix radar, but until now we hadn’t managed to get that ambition over the line. This time around the stars aligned perfectly. Surprise Chef and Harvey Sutherland are both Melbourne residents and they had already been working on projects together. The band set things up and Harvey chose to remix ‘New Ferrari’ from their latest album, ‘Daylight Savings’. His take on the track sees things venturing into dubby-disco territory. A dreamy, cosmic, bass-heavy, sweeping synth-led workout, that retains yet reinterprets the catchy-as-hell hooks from the original track. A roller with serious muscle!

The latest release from Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint welcomes Arina Mur back to the label for her debut single. Since making her production debut just over three years ago, the Russian artist has found a home on Anjunadeep, Akbal Music and Seven Villas, where her deep, organic sound has flourished. Also, an accomplished DJ, Arina has had the honour of opening for top international talents such as MANDY, Pablo Bolivar, Gorje Hewek and Izhevski. October of 2020 marked Arina's Sound Avenue debut with a well-received remix of the Spotify hit ‘Kafka' by Ercos Blanka. Now making a welcome return to the label, Arina presents a new single entitled ‘Make a Wish', alongside remixes from Jim Rider and Pambouk.
Since first emerging in 2017 Arina's exotic sound has taken square aim at the dance floor. Her latest ‘Make a Wish' continues that trend with a robust, well-shaped groove and healthy percussive complement. Bursting with ultrasonic qualities, Arina expertly marries vibrant arps with plush tones and choir-like vocal pads. Energetic and heavenly in equal measure, the first act sets the stage for a grandiose style break, complete with glowing swells and gorgeous vocal phrasing, perfectly setting the stage for a thumping drop and Mediterranean inspired finale.

Making his label debut and providing the first interpretation of ‘Make a Wish' is Jim Rider. Based in the UK, Jim Rider has been a key figure in London's Electronic Music scene as a DJ, producer and promoter. Having first emerged in 2017 as a producer, it was 2020 that proved to be a breakout year for Jim, landing releases via Lee Burridge's TRYBESof and Tale & Tone imprints, as well as projects for Akbal Music, Kindisch and his own Signs imprint. Now adding Sound Avenue to his resume, Jim debuts on the label with an inspired take on ‘Make a Wish'. Making great use of the parts and reprocessing them to maximum effect, the UK artist has created a complement that excels on rhythm and groove. Wonky tones and Mediterranean musicality set the mood early, as immaculately contoured bass and buzzing effects add swing and depth across the first movement. A timely break sits at the heart of the journey, pulling more emotion into the narrative as the vocal rises across placid pads and a bed of exotic percussion, onwards to a trippy finale.

The release concludes with Pambouk also making his label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Make a Wish'. After exploring different genres of music and releasing many tracks under various monikers for years, the Grammy nominated DJ and producer eventually settled on the Pambouk alias for his organic sounds. Fast forward two years and the Armenian artist has found a home on Hoomidaas, Melody Of the Soul and Proton Music. Now adding another key entry to his well-kept discography, Pambouk rounds out the release with a deeper take on ‘Make a Wish'. Rhythmically enticing from the outset, a bed of warm beats and low-slung bass stabs set the foundation for a storyboard of jangly motifs and organic drums. Transcendent in delivery, the vocal narrative delights, striking at timely moments and juxtaposed beautifully with its colourful surroundings. Furthering its textural appeal is a glowing break, building tension through muted beats and vocal phrasing, before pulling back as the beats drop for a finale that is equal parts musical and groovy. A gorgeous interpretation from Pambouk, which rounds out a welcome return to the label for Arina Mur, who impresses once again with ‘Make a Wish'.

Vessel is the latest release from the genre-hopping creator, William Florelle in collaboration with Groovence, the esteemed French label that houses Cody Currie, Moonee, Kassian, Tour Maubourg, Kevin Over, and more on its repertoire.

The release explores a new flavour of deep house and broken beat-infused dance music. Both tracks are led by the voice of William Florelle and *Vessel (Side to Side)*, features the entrancing spoken word of Shama Joseph.

In form with the theme of William Florelle’s lyricism, *Vessel* is a call to express and be oneself, especially on the dance floor - ’(you’ve) got all the answers, don’t hide yourself, don’t hide your bubble’. *Sometimes*, on the other hand, is pensive, flowing in unison with its wound-down but very vibey beat.

On remix duties, friend and collaborator, Beringei, joins to provide an interpretation of Vessel. Rethinking the chords and flipping the beat, Roy Vision joins to remix Sometimes.

Danny Oliver and Lee Rose, two rising stars in the tech house scene, have teamed up to create an electrifying remake of the classic rave track "Blade" by The Pump Panel, Dan Zamani, and Tim Taylor. The original "Blade" track, which was featured in the iconic opening scene of the 1998 movie "Blade," is known for its pounding beats, eerie synths, and spine-tingling vocal samples.

Oliver and Rose have taken the core elements of the original track and infused it with their signature tech house sound, resulting in a high-energy dancefloor weapon that is sure to get people moving. The track kicks off with a driving bassline that sets the tone for the rest of the song. The iconic vocal samples from the original track are still present, but they are now accompanied by glitchy synth stabs and atmospheric pads that create a sense of tension and anticipation.
As the track progresses, Oliver and Rose introduce new elements to keep the energy levels high. 

The percussion becomes more intricate and layered, and the synths become more distorted and intense. The breakdown features a haunting melody that builds up to a massive drop, which is sure to send shivers down the spines of listeners.

Overall, Oliver and Rose's remake of "Blade" is a fitting tribute to the classic rave track that inspired it. By staying true to the original while putting their own spin on it, they have created a track that is both nostalgic and fresh, and one that is sure to get crowds moving on dancefloors around the world.

The B side is pleasantly introduced by a more head nodding groove full of pads from Owain K with “Touched “, and as with many of it’s predecessors, this Limited Series installation is rounded off with a Beat and a mood from a smoky lounge this time from Embezzlement Society.
