Lyric inspired by a murder that occurred in the 1980's in the Atlanta Georgia neighborhood I grew up in named Buckhead. The 6 year old male child of one family was found raped and murdered next to a creek that all the kids played around....
When they were removing the body the only person in the neighborhood not interested was the older teenaged son of another family who continued to mow his lawn as if nothing out of the ordinary was going on. a red flag for the detectives ..
It turned out he had been raped repeatedly at the same location as a child... they did a deal to keep him off death row hence the lyric; "One more for the lord and two boys who wont be coming home, take off your hat son the judge is on his way".....

William Lee Self ist in den 80er Jahren als Frontmann der von Conny Plank produzierten Band Montanablue bekannt geworden. Zudem blickt er auf eine lange Reihe beeindruckender Zusammenarbeiten zurück, u.a. mit Blaine Reininger (Tuxedomoon), Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) oder David Gamble (Method Actors). Nach einer langen Schaffenspause meldete er sich 2011 mit der EP “Self” und 2012 mit “The Hamburg Sessions” zurück, einer weiteren Kollaboration mit Blaine Reininger. Die ursprünglich nur für den Support der “Hamburg Sessions” gegründete Band mit Lars Watermann (Schlagzeug), Julius Ramge (Gitarre) und Marc Balance (Bass), der 2012 von David Mautz abgelöst wurde, entwickelt auf “Wichita” einen Sound, der Lees musikalische und geographische Herkunft erahnen lässt; einerseits finden sich deutliche Referenzen zur legendären Athens-Musikszene wieder, gleichzeitig assoziiert der Hörer den dreckigen New Yorker Punk-Rock der späten 70er. Trotzdem klingt die Musik zu keinem Zeitpunkt altbacken; William Lee Self und seine Band schaffen es einen frischen Sound zu schaffen, der seine musikalische Herkunft nicht verleugnet.
