Here's a new club track I made exclusively for the DJ-Kicks mix. It feels good to be back in the studio and making music again. Some finish lines are appearing on the horizon.

The DJ-Kicks album will be released on 11th November on K7, available on double vinyl, CD and digital​. The mix represents my three years spent on the road since Drone Logic but also the time I’ve recently had in the studio.

Dutch live-act and DJ duo Artefakt prepare their atmospheric debut album on renowned techno imprint Delsin this February.

Known separately as Robin Koek and Nick Lapien, the pair first appeared on Field Records before follow up releases on Prologue, Delsin and Konstrukt. Individually Nick has been making waves under his Lapien moniker, dropping productions via Fred P’s Soul People Music, Finale Sessions, Rekids and DVS1’s Mistress Recordings, whereas Koek’s intricate sound design work has been performed globally at the likes of Toronto, Viseu, New York, Ohio, Berlin and Amsterdam.

True to their distinct mesmerising aesthetic, the album commences with a suspenseful number named ‘Kinship’ that combines sweeping pads with ominous tones. Pattering drums introduce ‘Tapestry’ before ghostly notes are brought into the equation, leading into ‘Entering The City’ with its rumbling low-end and soaring harmonies.

Next, ‘Somatic Dreams’ initiates with stuttering stabs as distorted nuances operate throughout, making way for the chugging ‘Fernweh’ with its ethereal synths and sci-fi throbs. ‘Return To Reason’ then incorporates heady acid squelches and hypnotic tape delays before opulent chords conclude the package in an ambient finale titled ‘Tapeloop 1’.

Kinship portrays a compelling narrative in a body of work that will undoubtedly keep listeners engaged from start to finish.

After another huge year in 2016 which saw the beginning of their hit Soma Track Series and yet another critically acclaimed album with Machine Cut Noise, Slam set out in 2017 to push the Techno boundaries even further with their first EP of the year, Prospector.

Leaning on an almost tribal vibe, title track Prospector creates a hypnotic opening atmosphere as it builds gently with it’s subversive rhythms and otherworldly, synthetic percussive elements. Spheric delves even deeper into mesmeric territory as pervasive low end and instantly magnetic synth patterns, stocked by unfaltering hi-hats serve as the back bone to a proper peak time burner. Neoteric sits solidly in the middle as tripped out rhythmic sections fold across each other as punchy percussion bangs effortlessly throughout guided by a quite dramatic build up. Bringing the EP to a close with Fervant, Slam take things  down a notch but quickly turn this into a real epic journey. Glistening pads and powerful sequences ebb and flow, building gracefully to euphoric like highs in this 9min odyssey.

Slam continue their Techno renaissance through every production and this latest EP from the prolific Glaswegian duo clearly shows their distinctive sound.

James Welsh is perhaps better known under his former alias as Kamera. The producer has formed a close relationship with the Phantasy record label run by Erolk Alkan. He returns with a new two track EP which is set for release on the 21st of July later this month.

Slam continue their prolific activity in 2017 with their new 4 tracker, The Sanctuary EP. 

A year of relentless touring hasn’t stopped the Soma label heads from firing on all cylinders with each release, and this latest EP sees the duo turn up the heat once more.

The EP starts off with Conduction, a heady mix of crafted Techno and strong, tripped out melodic rhythms. The rigorous Rotation is up next and goes full tilt, drawing on the main sequenced tones to drive home a powerful and reactionary affair. Slam are always ones for creating great synergy within their releases and do so proficiently as the EP goes deeper with Convection. Subtle, modulating synths lead the charge and perfectly crafted percussive elements remain steadfast throughout. The duo close the EP with the title track Sanctuary. A vibrant, affair packed with pulsating tonality, as classic synthesis methods are used to immense effect.
