Recorded with The Dap-Kings, the highly anticipated album was produced by Daptone's Gabriel Roth and features ten original tracks by the duo, including the hit “Hot Shot." The album was recorded at Daptone Records’ House of Soul studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn in 2014.

Saun & Starr - Hot Shot

Liz Vice, a Portland native who you will more often find behind a mic or camera on a film shoot, has worked in visual story-telling for over five years, working on various productions including the popular television show, Portlandia; a feature film, The A- List; and experience at the advertising firm, Wieden and Kennedy.  Most recently Vice has been recognized for her musical talent on the local music scene, including a show-stealing opening set recently for St. Paul & the Broken Bones at Wonder Ballroom as part of the Soul’d Out Festival.

Vice’s powerful debut album, There’s a Light on Deeper Well records, was recorded almost entirely live to analog tape during the spring and summer of 2013 in Portland. The album, a gospel-fueled nod to the R&B / soul records of the 60′s and 70′s, is modern enough not to be “throw back,” but classically influenced enough to feel timeless.

Liz Vice is passionate and has overcome many personal obstacles; she credits her adventurous life to not forcing anything and being available. "It's all about risk, and taking risk is never regretful…well, mostly."

The history of Brazilian football and the development of the country's musical styles are entwined. The sport is often described as a dance, and with good reason. Domingos da Guia, Brazil's outstanding defender of the 1930s and 1940s, once said 'My elder brother used to tell me: aren't you good at dancing? I was and this helped my football. I swung my hips a lot. That short dribble I invented? I was imitating the miudinho, that type of samba.'

Brazil also invented carnivalesque ways of supporting. In the 1940s Brazilians became the first fans to wear fancy dress at games and football matches are now unthinkable without a soundtrack of Batucada beats. The rhythm, happiness and ingenuity that marks Brazilian football makes it the perfect subject matter for music. Football has inspired almost all the great 20th century popular Brazilian artists including Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Elis Regina and Jorge Ben.


Trio Mocoto - Não Adianta

Saxophonist, vibraphone player and original member of Congolese group African Jazz, Manu Dibango has enjoyed a colourful and distinguished career. Alongside collabs with Kuti and Hancock, Dibango has also lent his musical talents to various film scores, notably to the seminal Sengalese film, Ceddo (dir. Ousmane Sembène). To celebrate the recent reissuing of such a captivating soundtrack, we are premiering our favourite from the release, the album opener and title track, 'Ceddo'.
