“Novail got their start as a teenage performer and promoter in the Olympia/Seattle hip hop scene in the late 2000's and early 2010's. Into adulthood, Novail found themself through Portland OR's Queer dance scene, where they promoted Switch Dance Party. During this time, Novail brought up and coming artists to the stage, booking a variety live acts across a variety of styles. Now based in NYC, Novail is behind the scenes as a Producer for Unter and holds a weekly DJ residency on Thursday's for Tech & Tonics at Jade Bar, alongside their longtime friend, Violet Flux. Novail explores selections across a wide range of sound, but lately finds comfort in the fast paced, spacious yet drilling frequencies of gabber, rave and industrial techno. In this mix, Novail curates a selection of acid, minimal, and industrial grooves stretching across regions.”

Novail got their start as a teenage performer and promoter in the Olympia/Seattle hip hop scene in the early 2010's and eventually landed in Portland, OR. While working at Portland's mainstay venue Holocene, Novail got exposed to a wide variety of parties and promoters, DJs, performers and live acts, eventually finding themself through the city's queer dance and drag scene. In 2017 they launched their friendly neighborhood kink party, switch., alongside DJ Don't, DJ Later and Diane Rott, later expanding the roster further and promoting a series of switch. spin-offs. Now based in Brooklyn, NY, Novail is behind the scenes as a producer for Unter and holds a weekly residency with Violet Flux on Thursday's at Jade Bar for Tech & Tonics.

Novail opened up the warehouse this past weekend starting off with some dark, percussive tracks and setting the mood right. Listen here or catch them playing or organizing some of the cutest parties around NYC.

Feeling At Home

The promoter behind Portland's Switch Dance Party and co-founder of Brooklyn's young techno showcase TechTonics, Novail has been hard at work establishing themself in the bi-coastal queer dance scene. Since landing in Brooklyn, Novail has been an active contributor to the underground rave network, working in production with the notorious UNTER party while producing, promoting and supporting a variety of other nights themselves. As a DJ, Novail is active in both the underground techno scene and the queer house scene, curating across a broad range of sonic space between hypnotic environments with dripping, dubby, acidic dimensions and cunty grooves with jacking rhythms and classic elements. Seen behind the decks in places such as Portland's Holocene, NY's Bossa Nova Civic Club, the Chernobyl Warehouse and beyond, Novail is an artist committed to the process of listening, learning, contributing and carrying forward the legacy of those who have come before. 

From Novail - Big thank you to othrwrld for the space to share this through Club Liminal. For this mix I wanted to explore a deep, drippy, hypnotic and wet realm of exploration, yearning and mystery, infused with some sass, sexiness and a hint of rebellion. Wading through the murky unknown depths of the day to day with the intention of seeking understanding while being open to change and difference has helped me develop comfort within the unknown and an eagerness to discover. I hope through this mix some of that discovery can be shared with those who listen.

Will Jack has spent the last couple of years behind the scenes of DIY parties as a producer and floor manager all the while promoting nights of their own, studying the craft and honing their skills and philosophy of the rave. As a DJ, Will Jack plays for the time and space delivering multidimensional techno sets as consistently as they do a hot and cruisy house groove. Seen behind the decks in places such as Portland’s Holocene, NY’s Bossa Nova Civic Club, the Chernobyl Warehouse, as well as Brooklyn’s UNTER party and San Francisco’s STANK, Will Jack is a force to keep an eye on with a story to be told.

Being raw and pure is core to my artistic style, so while I strive for quality and perfection, there are moments when I’m imperfect and work to do better. I’m a believer that the moment is always as intended, and while it’s riddled with suffering, it’s when I go against the grain of that suffering that I experience my most meaningful moments of growth. Being a human is messy and hard and because of that, many of us forget how lucky we are. Too many of us are literally fighting to survive.
