You can either shorten the reins, or you can loosen them – and give things more slack. With Bella Wakame, it’s definitely the latter. Constantly challenging each other, the two musicians are tapping a whole new energy. Tons of different energies. Based on the impulsive, propulsive interplay between drums/sensory percussion (Andi Haberl) and modular synthesizer (Florian Zimmer), the frenzied, free-form results take listeners into completely new dimensions – sonic worlds that don’t really sound anything like their other musical outlets (The Notwist, Saroos, Driftmachine etc.). 

Whereas most bands tend to notoriously overthink names/monikers, these guys obviously only care about the ecstatic push-and-pull that occurs once their instruments meet and overlap: it’s wildly explosive textures with a booming heart. Moving restlessly between motorik club, electro-acoustic jazz experiments (sans tight lips/straight shirt collars), and fast-paced instrumental anthems that seem to explode at the seams, one can immediately tell how much they enjoy the newfound freedom, the turbulent encounters born on the spur of the moment. 

It’s all about a quick-paced exchange of friendly blows, a chasing of tails into ever-new musical terrains. Relying on just enough form for that wildness to blossom within, their just-in-time dashes continually unfold, refold, return, grow bigger – and leave you startled. 

Originally released in Spring 2023 as a first statement of intent,  Bella Wakame´s „ debut" single “Toutpartout PT2” already came with hypnotic ripples, thick layers of bass, a few seedlings of melody. Currently reworking a recent live recording (captured at Berlin’s Donau115) into somewhat definitive song structures, the battle between form and freedom (the fun of momentary formlessness) continues in 2024 as they  are en route to their first proper album.

The prolific Kink Gong (aka Laurent Jeanneau) returns in a unique duet with one of the most prominent artists of the Chinese avantgardist scene Li Daiguo. Kink Gong and Li Daiguo first met in Chengdu (capital of Sichuan Province, China) while playing the same night at the Jahbar music venue. 

A few months later, as they become neighbors in Cai Cun, a village near the old town of Dali (Yunnan), Kink Gong begins recording Daiguo playing Pipa, Cello and Zheng. He then proceeded to deconstruct these recordings while adding voices that he mainly recorded in Yunnan Province. This fantastic combination of field recordings, experimental folk melodies and electronic treatment leads us to a fourth underground universe reminiscent of Jon Hassell's finest hours.

We find two druids: Momor and Atepomar walking quickly along the winding spirals of a country road, leading towards to the magic hill of ravens - Lugdun, located at the confluence of two mighty rivers - Ron and Son...Sunrise is just slowly emerging, slicing darkness of the night with sword of light...Feels still cool...Cause of this they wrapped deep in decorated with embroidery of sacred symbols mantles that are almost cover their eyes...On the way sages actively discuss various aspects of the practical approach at musical practices which they study and share in their almanac - D.A.T.S.A., published by the LYL library of the Lyon...

Among their reasoning, possible to hear a variations of how the smooth integration of cultures into each other, creates completely new ways of interacting with the space surround, thereby allowing to see what was not previously reflected in the mirror of reality...

With discussion, the trees quietly began to thin and a small clearing opened before the eyes...Bordered with stones of various heights, with ogamic inscriptions and a huge oak tree rising in the middle...As soon as the druids took to the stage, one of the mighty branches was taken by a huge raven, glancing at the guests with his unblinking eyes...As if evaluating whether they can be here or not...Having convinced himself of the legitimacy, he set off...From under their mantles Momor and Atepomar took out different flasks and a thermos, made fire, collected mistletoe and sat under a tree...Looking to the East, they started their ceremony, which became the new chapter of amateur exotic`s mix-tales!
