Hymnalvania isn’t your typical hymnal album. It’s a series of classic church hymns faithfully reimagined in 8-bit form, crafted to sound as if they were written for the Nintendo Entertainment System of the 1980s. Each arrangement is built using the authentic NES sound chip, giving every track that unmistakable retro game character.
As someone who loves both vintage video games and timeless hymns, I’ve combined those passions into an album series. Drawing solely on memory and ear training, I recreate the hymns I’ve grown up singing, translating them into the musical language of the NES. The result is both a nostalgic blend, and a way to experience familiar church hymns through the lens of classic 8-bit games.
