Wingman is comprised of Melbourne based Techno DJs Ranjit Nijjer and Qualé (originally from France), who have the accumulated experience of 25 years between them. First performing together in July 2013, these two DJs have spent the past two years developing a co-operative quasi-live DJ performance project using two four-channel Traktor set-ups. They utilise a combination of loops and full tracks over eight channels and unlike traditional VS sets, they both have input into the mix simultaneously. There is no pre-planning in terms of structure, instead the pair will set general creative and thematic guidelines to work with – thus creating more of a live dimension. Their sound encompasses much of the spectrum of Techno however the atmosphere they create is often dark, hypnotic, and quite unique. Already Wingman have had the opportunity to support International acts Boris Brejcha (Ger) and Ann Clue (Ger) as well as appearing at events run by Melbourne party institutions such as Machine, Silo, Instinct, Earthcore, When the Smoke Clears, and Bunker; while also making several appearances on Kiss FM and TRSNMT. Outside of the club environment, Wingman also performed at Rainbow Serpent Festival in 2014 and 2015 as part of Machine’s now regular event hosted at Bean Bag Babylon.
