ERIC ALEXANDRAKIS Silver Moon [A Tribute To Michael Nesmith]

Written by Michael Nesmith. 

Produced, performed, recorded and arranged by Eric Alexandrakis in first takes on a 16-track recorder.

On December 10, 2021, pioneering songwriter Michael Nesmith [The Monkees],
who is also the inventor of MTV, and a major influence upon the development of  the home video market, passed away at  the  age of 78.  His  passing  has  left  a  hole  in  the  world,  but  his influence lives on forever.

As a songwriter and overall innovator, Nez has been a great influence upon my music.  His passing affected me greatly and pushed me to record a cover of his solo classic “Silver Moon” from his 1970 album LOOSE SALUTE.  I’ve been wanting to record this song for many years, but as life tends to get in the way, I suddenly found myself drawn to giving Nez a send-off to his next cosmic journey, in my own way.  So I fired up my 16-track recorder, played all of the instruments myself in first  takes to keep it spontaneous, singing through guitar pedals, and released my version of “Silver Moon” 20 days after Nez’s passing...on his birthday.

Silver Moon [A Tribute To Michael Nesmith]

DEEP - Composed for the great humpback whales which spend their summers in the Hawaiian island chain.  This work utilizes harmony reminiscent of the impressionists a la Debussy and Ravel.  It is set over a 10/4 meter affording a watery base for the flute and vocal tracks.
