This EP is two tracks made around this time last year (2018). One in the summer when things were great and one in the fall when things somewhat fell apart... Check the track descriptions for more of the story.

The next EP will illustrate a bit more of this span of time. Like Star Wars, sometimes you have to start later in the story and reveal the earlier bits of it later on. I don't know if that makes sense or not but oh well...

Blasé Funk

The project file says I started this tune on November 5, 2018. Funny that the day I decide to release it is one year later exactly. So this track marks a big transitionary period in my life then. Somewhat coming to grips with a lost relationship, preparing myself to lose my best friend, and rekindling a new (also current and pretty great) relationship. One of many low points in my life that still lingers in the back of my mind most days. 

Which brings us to the word "Blasé". For some reason, this word popped in my mind when coming up for a name. I've only heard my Mom say it a few times and had to look it up. "apathetic to pleasure or excitement as a result of excessive indulgence or enjoyment". Apathetic was definitely the mood then, but the rest, I don't know. I was overthinking about all the "what ifs" and the "what nexts" that I was numb. Numb to a lot of things. Somehow this track came out of it. Melancholy, apathetic, and bit reflective. Somewhat Calibre-esque if the makes sense. I don't know… It's a stripped back and bare view of what I was feeling then. The somewhat #sadboy side. The angry bits show up in more aggressive tracks that will be around in time….

Blasé Funk EP

Blasé Tones

Started May 21, 2018. This just started as wanting to make something super funky. Guess that's why I used the good 'ol Funky Drummer break. I wanted something simple, energetic, and groovy. Somewhat jungly but fresh, which is why it's mostly the break and the bass that drives it forward. The melodic bits help had a bit of color and more of that funk seasoning™ too. Strings, crunchy Rhodes, deep 808ish bass, classic drums, and groove - I don't know if I could get any funkier (I'm trying to trust me).
 
I was in a good place too. Getting things ready to move across the state with my then s/o and pup, and about to start a new chapter called "Graduate School". I was excited, anxious, and ready to start something new. Well, not THAT new since I was moving back to the same place I went for my undergrad. The situation was different though. I wasn't alone and that felt great. Becoming more "mature" as my Mom would say. She also pronounces it like "Muh-Tour"…idk. Anyway, things were looking up. At least that's what I was hoping/working towards.
