We are Winter in the East!

What started as friends started playing jazz before school has became an up and coming local band full of potential. We play jazz, funk, rock, and even pop, so there is something for everyone in our sets. The feeling of performing is like no other for us, and we enjoy no other feeling more than putting smiles on peoples’ faces. 

In 2013 Winter in the East was formed as a jazz combo for a music competition. Our name was the product of the first two songs we ever played together, West Coast Blues and Summertime. Winter in the East is the opposite, and we all loved it. 2014 was a year of discovery for us. After playing a show on the 4th of July we were offered to play live on Dr. Sushi’s Free Jazz BBQ on 91.7 WMSE. The live radio show closed out a 3-show summer, and really inspired all of us. In the fall of 2014 Winter in the East played 1 show at a local event and then decided to make some fundamental changes. Our singer was brought in as lead vocalist, and we decided to start playing genres outside of jazz. His first show with the band was our Holiday show in 2014. In early 2015 our guitarist was brought in as lead guitarist. After his arrival we all got to work. Together we practiced hard to prepare for the summer of 2015. In March 2015 we composed our 1st original piece Get Down. When summer arrived we worked harder than ever! We played 8 shows which included venues like the Waukesha County Fair, Cudahy 4th of July, and a 3 hour show at Cudahy’s Sweet Applewood Festival. Summer 2015 was a lot of fun, we worked very hard to innovate, have fun, and entertain.

2016 started well, with a show during Holiday Break. The ball kept rolling in the Summer. The band played 9 shows including stellar performances at East Town Farmers Market, and an extended time slot at Cudahy’s 4th of July. School and work were stressful, but music continued to be an outlet to creativity. The band spent a lot of time reevaluating which songs went into a perfect set and performance. The result was a great mix of genres, and songs. From jazz, to soul, and rock Winter in the East kept their ideas fresh. The summer wrapped up on a high note, as the band played downtown on Brady Street, and at the popular Greenfield Farmers Market. It was a great summer of growth as musicians, friends, and as a band.

In the summer of 2017 the band pushed into new venues, providing music for two weddings. It was very special for us to be a part of someone's special day! The experiences from the last two summers paid off as the band played tighter, creative sets at some of the same places as the last two years, as well as new venues like the Downer Classic Bike Race. The summer ended on a good note again by upgrading gear, and with a fun filled set at the Fondy Foods Market. After 5 years of playing together the band is better than ever looking forward to the future!
