Ronny Engmann aka RNGMNN returns to our Winter-Light label with his brand new album 'False Dawn'.

Following on in the snow trodden footsteps of his previous venture 'Arctic Interference', 'False Dawn' shrouds the listener in a blanket of ice cold, polar dark ambience.

Navigating treacherous, unforgiving landscapes; disorientating and unsettling, filled with percussive elements that could shatter the ice covered peaks of the bones of the world.

We are very excited to announce the debut album 'Drømmenes Spejl' from Danish artist 'Væv' is appearing on our Winter-Light label.

Væv, which means "web" in Danish, explores the interconnectedness in our lives, perhaps chief among them the connection between our day to day reality and our spiritual development. These threads were woven before we entered this world; they are our world.

'Drømmenes Spejl' is a rich contrast of dark ambience, sombre melodies, dark jazz, and minimalistic drones.

'Drømmenes Spejl was produced during a very turbulent time in my life. It reflects my personal journey through a depression which culminated in my family falling apart. But crisis is the mother of change. From the ashes of the World Tree, new seeds can grow. I found comfort in these pieces, and it is my hope that they may bring comfort to other suffering souls who find them.

I would like to dedicate this album to the gods and people who stood by me in its making. - Væv 2021'

Ajna & Onasander join forces to create a dark and brooding soundtrack to one of the most highly attested witches in Latin Literature; Canidia.

Canidia is considered Rome's first witch and had perpetrated acts of grave desecration, kidnapping, murder, black magic, and poisoning to name but a few. She is most known for being mentioned in the poems of Horace, where she has a prominent role of a demon-like figure. There is much mystery and speculation as to whether Canidia may be a myth or an actual historical figure.

These 7 tracks evoke the heinous deeds of Canidia the Witch, propelling the listener into her ancient world of nightmarish deeds and mystery.

Winter-Light welcomes Nam-Khar back for their third sonic venture on our label, this time collaborating with fellow German artists Vortex (Tesco Organisation, :Ikonen: Media, Cyclic Law).

The Nag Hammadi scriptures - also known as the Nag Hammadi library - are a collection of early Christian texts that are mainly attributable to the Gnosis and were never integrated in official versions of the bible. They were found by local farmers near the small Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi in December of 1945. Most of these writings were then not known at all or only available in fragments. They include the Gospel of Thomas in particular.

The Nag Hammadi scriptures probably came from a period between the 1st and 4th centuries. Most of these scriptures are written primarily from the perspective of Gnostic Christians. In his introduction to The Nag Hammadi Library in English, scholar James Robinson suggests that these codices may have belonged to a nearby Pachomian monastery and were buried after Saint Athanasius condemned the use of non-canonical books in his Festal Letter of 367 A.D. The discovery of these texts significantly influenced knowledge of early Christianity and Gnosticism.

In 2020 the German ritual ambient bands Nam-Khar and Vortex joined forces to draw inspiration from the Nag Hammadi scriptures and their spiritual and cultural context. They fused their distinctive sounds to create a careful interpretation of the source texts from a pan-religious and spiritual perspective, resulting in hypnotic soundscapes and rhythm-pattern.

The idea of this album concept is to keep up the spirit of ancient and mostly forgotten paths of wisdom to a contemporary audience. It is dedicated to the spiritual seeker.

Croatian artist Jurica Santek (Nox, Aegri Somnia, Efil) returns to our Winter-Light label with his second full length album 'Abyssal Codex'.

'Abyssal Codex' follows in the footsteps of his previous 'Opus Unending' album, released via our Winter-Light label. This is traditional dark ambient, with the focus still aimed on low, sub tones, edged with industrial and horror recordings. The music is still downtune and lo-fi, interspersed with harsh sounds and natural elements.

'The main focus is on dark, isolationist soundscapes but also as music without distraction, that can be used as a background meditative for various purposes. The aim is to reach a fluid dark atmosphere that is pleasant and meditational to listen to, but that is also having dark and unnerving moments.'

The album was recorded between 2021/2022.

Field recordings were taken from Krapina/Opatija/Čakovec, Croatia.

All tracks written, produced and recorded by Jurica Santek.

A welcome return to our Winter-Light label for 'Argyre Planitia' with his latest sonic offering, 'The Great Dark Spot'.

Patiently delivered tracks offer up rich bass tones, lamenting drones, icy pads and intricate, atmospheric percussion. All the elements blended together to guide the listener to the farthest reaches of our Solar System.

'Circling the last icy moons of the giant gas planets, orbital energy and angular momentum propels us onwards. The Great Dark Spot opens up before us, engulfing our view with its immense presence. A sudden surge of storm laden static, pulses and cosmic interference courses through the ships systems. The onboard computers convert the mass of data into sound, as we listen intently to the tropospheric transmissions …….’

'Argyre Planitia' is the project of Stefan Voß; a dark ambient producer from Hannover, Germany.

Stefan cites a number of musical influences across many genres including dark ambient, post punk, Berlin school and classic rock artists such as early Pink Floyd. This melting pot of musical influences have culminated in crafting a very unique style of dark ambient production.

"Brouillard" is the first full length dark ambient album produced by FoetusDreams, who has previously contributed music to compilations. From start to finish "Brouillard" is a real ambient journey; sometimes an introspective one, sometimes a glance from the inside looking out and far beyond the reach of the human eye.

The tracks are beautifully sculpted pieces of ambient excellence and from the opening moments of the first you are transported into the world of "FoetusDreams". Rich drones resonate across starkly crafted, ice-cold landscapes where your only companions are the sounds that flow around you. Vibrant musical layers, occasionally punctuated with a clever use of samples, draw the listener ever further away from reality towards a deeper, more meaningful sense of self. You could easily be standing on the edge of the universe looking out, or traversing the caverns of your own mind in a search for that place of inner peace. The title track "Brouillard" is a master class in drone ambient with its ever present trance inducing hum that lowers a mist over the eyes and takes you to a very dark place indeed. Drifting in to deep sleep, the night time journeys begin.

Images forming behind closed eyes; shaped and sharpened by the senses. Trespassing upon newly created neural pathways; moving ever deeper inwards, flowing effortlessly over magnetic fields and landscapes. Passages of time, vast and unending open before you. Where past, present and future can be one and the same; co-existing all at the same time or even not at all.

An inner space to do battle with unimaginable foes, mythological beings and walk shoulder to shoulder with Gods. Night after night, the struggles continue, only ending once the dawn breaks. And break it must .....

Stefan Voß is a dark ambient producer from Hannover, Germany. He has previously released on Petroglyph Music and more recently he released his 'The Atomic Age' album on the very respectable Essentia Mundi label. He has also self-released two albums 'Echoes From The Past' and 'Beyond The Wall Of Sleep' via his own artist Bandcamp page.

Winter-Light is a record label and online store based in Noord-Holland, The Netherlands, specialising in deep ambient, experimental and drone soundscapes.

Our goal is to release new and interesting music within these genres without imposing limitations on the possibilities. Exploring new areas, pushing at known boundaries, or working within current structures can always produce beautiful and interesting results.

Working in conjunction with Midnight Sun Studio, we create visual pieces to accompany our releases. The creation of motion graphics, put to out there and interesting electronic music; that is adding another dimension altogether.
