Thank you David aka Joe ... For the rest of you, If you remotely even appreciate my version of this, then please listen to the original by Mr. Joe Jackson... a true classic...

For the cover art, I inverted the keys on the model I rendered, because a "Fortepiano or pianoForte" has keys like a harpsichord Black keys for the Whole notes and white keys for the half notes ( opposite of a piano today )

Production wise, I wanted this mix/composition to feel improv and loose/organic and most of ... live. I used modo drums by IKMM with a new custom kit--one of features of this new WMS kit, named "Big Ballad", was a large "loose" snare drum with large low tension "chains" but using a low to negative velosity on the sticks/hits over i mix the "studio" and "jazz" elements (basa drum, snare, toms, etc) into this hybrid new kit

At some point, One of Franz Listz most famous pieces was broadcast on either radio or TV (same thing of coarse) and as it was broadcast it raised high above the earth and melted into space ... this version/homage follows that never ending journey...{it is still going...). As the broadcast's wavs and particles move across the galaxy, they collidce and interact with other cosmic elements. This is the role the Slayer2 (Electric guitar emulator, sadly no longer availlable) VST takes as it is backed back amp sim provided by IKMultimedia. This guitar is highly  controlled(automated) in 3 major area: the tension of a string, the velocity of the strum and the tension of that velocity as it interacts with the strings tension--in other words, this allow me to "bend" the string and by adding more or less "Ring modulation" to the mix of the Guitar I can create the fx that slowly mutate as the song progresses. This allows me to tie the proformance of the guitar in a very emotional way that is generally not found in automated instruments. Think of the Piano as how it should sound and the guitar as how it begins to sound as it erodes on its journey across time and space...

7/28 First edit: Since I just finally a very Extended TRacks-I have remaster this at Sunset Sound--well at least virtually--In one of the Live rooms after running through "One" and finally to Tape Machine 99/and their Matcher.... The result I thin k is mostly warmer and clean, and there was no clipping so the transients should be fuller...

All presence brought up, overall mix is cleaner and percise--most all transients left entact. Base mix and busses unchanged. This track has evolved (revolved ? :) )  into the "cornerstone" and  "keystone" of the whole album/project..

The story below shows the contrast of ideas of peace and war that drive this song (and even this album) and give this songs hard edge but also a somehow lamenting yearn for better times.

The Story:

Zimmerhahn ducked quickly to the right, just as a huge rock crashed beside him but then rolled harmlessly down the hill. "Those Orges are getting better aim, time to make them forget that" 
As he bathed the Orges in a blue light, he had a sudden flash back to the day the assistant to the high mage had stopped by to tell his parents that he had been invited to enroll all tuition paid into the "School of Magearchy and Mastery". He was so young and just didn't comprehend how this would change his life, how... he would eventually wind up a Warcaster on a faraway battleground... *ZAHKK* again he instinctively dodges a Cantrip, that a rival Mage who didn't like his meddling had casted, as he dodged, he spun right and let off a flare of red fire that was slightly stronger than what his adversary had decided would be hit to stifle Zimmerhahn. The enemy Mage clutched at his throat as the pure fire collapsed his esophagus then shot straight up through the top of his head, he fell over just a smoldering husk. "Now all I have is killing and war" 
Zimmerhahn thought back to those innocent days, "If only I had not gone with the high mages assistance that day, maybe now ... would be .... Home..."

The Mage

Many of the Strongest Wizards become Leaders and Statesmen, but when War roams over the Collition of Greater Kingdoms--these statesmen or even more specialized Wizards are drawn into these warring Kingdoms and don the most terrifying discipline of The Magical that ever was--War Magic. In short they become the most feared type of Wizard--The War Caster, as they try and keep whatever level of civilization they may reported before they are Geared in Lightning, Fire, and Steel or even use arcane magiks to power ancient constructs which will stalk over the Battleground rending all Asunder, as the  War Caster protect these Behemoths with magical shields. Above all this Darkness and Carnage the War Casters fire volley after volley of dark spells, fire and rays at all who dare to resist.  All the while these liberium of Dark Arts of War will  tear at the Wizards very Souls...

A highly Analog driven synth (via IKMM Synthronic 2) piece underscored by deep bass and drums in a very retro Progressive Rock style--massive by Native Instruments rounds out the sound.

Over New Frontiers

MTC I have wanted to do one of my Favorite Symphonies for quite some time, but knew I wanted it to be near perfect. I have learned a lot about this type of production as I have built this "Electronica Majoris" series of "Classics". This is my take on this amazing piece that really shows the incrediable diversity in Beethoven styles. About 50/50 "traditional" to pure electronic voices, however this is all completely electronically generated and arranged. Once again for the Conti Bass and Cello line I  have used electric bass ala "Chris Squire" styles and rigged (RIP Mr Squire, you are very missed). The mix is a bit aggressive but I feel it is how this piece should be rendered...  

The 2nd movement of this piece was feature in the TV series "Mr Robot"...

So instead of making this a "patch" to the already released 3rd movement... I decided this deserved to be a separate release. So here is the final ( save a few small edits I still wannt to do) version of Beethoven''s 3rd Movement in his amazing 5th Symphony... oh the "XD" refers to the extended Dynamics of this version tansients are fully intact.

I say "Analog" because despite the very "real" sound of the Opening bass it is in fact also "digital" the VST being the first Modeled bass ever by IK Multimedia...

The first original track that came from my remix of "Newfoundland" There are two major themes that drive this song and help give the context of the title and composition. One is the low pulsing two note arpeggio that represents the thermal energy that provides a vast contrasting landscape of hot springs, geysers, and ultimately providing the hydro-thermal energy that nearly completely powers that amazing county. The other major theme which eventually works itself into the main piano melodies, it the high arcing 404 (303ish) 3 - 4 note arpeggio that represents cold Arctic winds that cut and shape the amazing hills and mountains that wrench themselves skyward to meet those very winds. These two themes carve and grind out a set of middle themes that span under those very noble and brave Icelandic people, which of course are "personified" by the Mellowtron like (actually from the VST: "Mellowtone" ) Choirs that boldly hearken back to those first Vikings who over 900 years ago landed on that amazing Landscape and forged a land and home. That in a nutshell was my thinking and reasoning to what you hear in this song
Years ago on a TagWorld --where I first released this song--I knew I had achieved these goals, when I realized one of the fans there who was found Iceland but was currently living in Norway--I said to him what the song did for him, how did it make him feel-his response: "Homesick"

One lonely night in early 2001, I decided to play (not sequenced at all) and record one of my favorite pieces of music, and add my own twists to it...
I memorized the progressions and practiced for about 20 minutes, and then live recorded this in one take.

Black Ice first "Incarnates" on 2000-2001's  "State of the Art" which introduced the concept of "Art Trance" and "true" progression in Trance. Even through there are now lost earlier versions of this track, this was the first "official" release of the track. If "Black Ice" meant the possibility of a flat-line for a cowboy (hacker ) in Gibson's books the Chinese supplied "Kaung Eleven" version was a definitive ending for those who wandered into it's realm in Cyber-space... In the track the "choir" areas can be thought of as "flat-lines" as the song progresses forward... literally seeing the face of God...

I have always had a general rule about Wintermut3, "I make music I want to hear" A Part of that has been to overcome barriers and "traditions"  of what Electronic music has been and continues to be--the upshot being, Wintermut3 will move in directions (Funk, Metal, Rock, etc ) that are of interest, despite being a pure electronic artist. Note this does not exclude me from making more "common" types of Electronic music. I will never stop making--as long as I breathe--Trance, Jungle, Breakbeat, Techno, etc. In Fact for about 15 years I have been exploring the idea that we may be not just at an Post Electronica but may in fact be nearing a musical Epoch (for lack of a better word) what I am saying is we might be heading for a music metamorphis on the order of when Baroque became Classical Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Telemann (most prolific composer in history, over 3000 compositions (Late Baroque-->Early Classical)  Mozart,  Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert. These types of musical epochs are a hundred to over two hundred years in length. The period that is being bridged for us is the hundred or even nearly two hundred period in which Blues and Jazz was born and then over a hundred years influenced nearly all forms of music that we know which all music was. Electronica was born around the mid to late 1920s as that was the time several electronic instruments (Theremin ). For the most part Electronic music has been amazingly resistent to Blues and Jazz, but there are definately times that resistence has lessened. I feel all the various forms of music that where born out of Blues and Jazz or heavily influenced by it are fusing back into Electronica. I am not the only artist who strives for a hybid of "real" and electronic. Only time will tell...

Welcome to my nearly 20 year journey:  my music project Wintermut3 originally created in late 1998, with a first public release in early 1999 on mp3.com and other Music sites...

Originally inspired by the works of William Gibson, Wintermut3 is about bringing the listener into the sights and visions of the music. 
The music is highly story and concept driven and is made to immerse the listener in mood and feeling. 
The overall goal is to take the listener to a place they have never been before.
Highly infused with the music of Progressive Rock (Yes, Rush, Genesis, etc.) and early electronic (Tomita, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, etc) all blended in with more "contemporary" electronic sounds (Massive attack, Enigma, Orbital, the Orb, BT, etc) into something I call: "Concept Electronica". None of the sounds you hear in Wintermut3 are "loops" or "samples" especially the more organic sounds (electric guitars, horns, etc), I lovingly lay every note and run them through various software (DAWs, VST, VSTi, etc) and or model the Instrument that renders them. I have spent many many years to get Wintermut3 to sound as "real" and organic as I can... I take great pride in this ;)
Regardless, what results is music that follows the original premise of my musical "project" Wintermut3--music that is a logical progression of what is known and loved up to the point of the project's inception over 16 years ago--In short, it is music "Built for the Future", not now...but it is always fine to like, love it now...
