This has been a challenging and difficult year for all of us. I have missed touring and sharing moments with people in different parts of the world. But during this period, I have valued spending time in the studio and sharing my work with you through WIP. To finish 2020, WIP04 contains two more positive and energetic tracks I made recently. ‘Pulse’ gives me a feeling of traveling and transporting far away, and with ‘Quartal’ I was returning to some ideas that come from my Jazz roots. Thanks for your support of WIP, it has been a great source of encouragement for me. I hope you enjoy them and stay safe. Wata 

今年は私たちにとって本当に困難な一年でした。個人的には、3月以降ツアーはなく、例年の様に世界の色々な場所で沢山の人々と時間を共有したりすることができなかったのは残念でしたが、この間、スタジオで制作に多くの時間を費やすことができ、WIPの作品を通して会えない皆さんと音楽を共有することを大切しようと動いていました。2020年の締めくくりのリリース、WIP04にはポジティブでエネルギッシュな方向性のフロアトラックが2曲収録されています。Pulseは遠い彼方へタイムトリップをしているようなイメージ、Quartalでは自分のルーツであるJazzに由来するアイデアをベースにしています。いつもWIPをサポートしてくれてるみんなありがとう。年末も安全にお過ごしください。Wata

WIP05 is composed of two tracks inspired by the unique and powerful feelings that come from playing outdoors. 

Tatacoa is a track I originally made for when I toured Columbia. One of the shows was at Tatacoa Desert, and instead of the dry heat I had expected, when I played it was heavy rain. But still the crowd pushed through by dancing hard. This track reminds me of that unique energy of everyone fighting together against the weather. 

NRO is a new track emerging from my Etched liveset video, which was recorded in the crisp air of Yatsugatake as the sun was falling. I played in front of the Nobeyama Radio Observatory, and I made this arpeggio line to connect with the spacey vibe of the location and the beautiful nature surrounding it. 

This is the first WIP release for 2021. I’m looking forward to sharing more music with you throughout the year.

WIP05は、アウトドアでの体験や感覚にインスパイアされて作った２曲の新EPです。 

Tatacoaは、もともとコロンビアツアーのために作った曲。タタコア砂漠でのレイブイベントでは、想像していたような乾いた暑さではなく、今まで体験した事ないような激しい土砂降りでした。そんな過酷な状況でも、ハードに踊りまくって乗り切るオーディエンスが放つ、悪天候に負けない爆発的なエネルギーをリスペクトしていて、僕にとってこの曲はそのパワーへのリマインダーとなっています。 

NROは、太陽が沈む八ヶ岳の澄んだ空気の中で収録されたEtchedでのライブセット用に作ったアルペジオシーケンスを9分強のトラックにリメイクしました。会場となった野辺山宇宙電波観測所の宇宙的な雰囲気と、周囲の美しい自然とを結びつけるようなサウンドを目指しました。 

2021年の最初のWIPがリリースできて嬉しいです。今年も沢山の音楽を皆さんと共有できることを楽しみにしています。

In 2022 I have finally been able to start travelling and playing outside Japan again. It has been incredibly positive being able to see friends old and new, and share my music with audiences around the world. Now I am happy to be able present my new WIP release, which includes two tracks I have been playing on my recent tours. 02 Voyage

01 Roar

For WIP08, two tracks I have been playing on my recent tours.
 
I made ‘Tunnelling’ before a trip to Colombia. The idea for the track was simple and direct, something to create energy on the dancefloor. I have a clear memory of playing a demo version in Pereira and feeling it work. People just going wild and dancing hard, that is all this one is about.
 
‘Storm’ was inspired by the overwhelming power of nature, how it can be so strong and intense, but also beautiful and inspiring. That was the vibe I was trying to create with this track.

WIP has a double meaning: Wata Igarashi Productions / Work In Progress. That’s the basic idea: to use this as a platform for sharing my music. WIP is meant as a direct way to express myself and present what I am feeling and working on. For now, WIP will be digital only and exclusive to Bandcamp.
 
Originally, I planned to start with a series of techno releases, but that is not what I am feeling like now. And so WIP01 is composed of two calmer and more reflective tracks. ‘Clear’ was made during cherry blossom season in Japan; the warmth and beauty of the start of spring inspired me. ‘Flow’ is very simple, I used just five oscillators and wanted to create a feeling of flow, getting lost in frequencies as they modulate organically.
 
I hope you enjoy WIP01 and I am looking forward to sharing more music with you here in the future. Take care during these challenging times,

WIPは”Wata Igarashi Productions”と”Work In Progress”という２つの意味があり、自分がその時々に感じた事や表現したい音をよりダイレクトにアウトプットする場として作りました。現時点ではWIPはBandcampでのデジタルリリースのみとなります。

元々レーベルのスタートはテクノEPと思っていましたが、実際今はそんな気持ちではなく、WIP01はビートが無い今の自分を反映したアンビエント方向の２曲で構成する事にしました。”Clear”は自粛中でありながらも暖かくなり桜が舞う春にインスパイアされて作った曲。”Flow”はとてもシンプルで、５つのオシレーターのみが使われています。倍音がオーガニックに変化する音の流れに漂い没入できるサウンドスケープを目指しました。

今後この場で音楽をシェアできればと思います。

During these quiet days I have been spending a lot of time in my studio and want to share some of what I have been producing. At this moment, I have been enjoying making more ambient and cosmic tracks, and through these exploring different production techniques and energies. This is what you can find across these four tracks. WIP02 really conveys my feeling now, I hope you enjoy them.

Recently I was making a TB-303 sample pack for 60Sounds, and this put me back in a techno mood. So after WIP01 and WIP02 had an ambient vibe, I wanted WIP03 to be for the dancefloor. “Eruption” and “Decrypt” are two tracks I made for my DJ sets, one stronger, the other more melodic. I’ve enjoyed playing them out and am happy to now share them here. Hope you enjoy WIP03!

最近、スタジオでPeter Van Housen主催の60Soundsのライブラリー（これも近々発表となります）用にTB-303のノブをいじまくっていたら自粛モードで落ち着いていた自分の中のテクノバイブスが強まっていったこともあり、WIP01&02と続いたアンビエント系から一転、WIP03はフロア向けの方向になりました。Eruptionと Decryptは、自分のDJセットの流れの中で「こんな曲をプレイしたい」という意図から制作した2曲。デモバージョンではツアーの各地現場でもなかなか良く機能することを確認済みで、ここでファイナルバージョンを共有できることを嬉しく思っています。
まだまだ気を抜けない日々が続きますが、体調等お気をつけて！
