The Netherlands’ world famous Radio 538 has today launched their brand-new sound, once again produced by Wisebuddah. 

The 2021 package for the Talpa owned station sees the artistic talents of Marc Vickers, Ben Townsend, Steph Jansen (Wisebuddah) and Chris Hartgers (538) combine again, collaborating to take the sound of 538 even further.

With over a dozen new compositions, ranging from Drop House to Dance to Urban Pop, the package contains new generic station IDs and a fresh TOTH sequence, all reflecting the cutting edge of CHR imaging.

Chris Hartgers, Creative Lead, Radio 538, said: “ We’ve worked with Wisebuddah for almost 10 years now, our combined goal was to keep ahead of the trends and to come up with the next stage of imaging for Radio 538. We needed to make sure that our listeners could still recognize the well-known ‘Radio 538 sound’ over the new package, but more than ever we needed to push our sound forward. After 8 months of hard work, I can proudly say that we have brought Radio 538 to its new chapter of imaging and sound. And boy, it’s a good one!”

Wisebuddah’s Managing Director, Phil Tozer, added: “As one of the world’s most well-known CHR radio stations, and with over 2.5 million weekly listeners, we knew that we had to be at the top of our game to produce a sound that is considered a benchmark for contemporary production. Power intros are memorable

“Power intros are excellent tools to claim your ‘A’ category songs as a part of your station’s brand”, Thomas Giger of PURE Jingles explains. “Distinctive branded intros that have been repeated often enough will stick in people’s minds. Chances are they will associate that great-testing song with you.”

This strategic branding value can also translate into ratings: “Hearing the normal version of that song, even on another station, listeners who know your power intro will often hum YOUR station name along the melody of your branded version. It’s one of those miracles of audio branding! Sung melodies are memorable, research shows.”


Branded intros work everywhere

“In diary-measured, recall-based markets, your station can get extra listening credits as people may THINK they’ve been listening to you - while it may actually could have been a competitor. Especially when the other station doesn’t have their own power intro version or doesn’t precede the song with imaging.”

Branded intros also add value to PPM-market radio: “Power intros are contributing to higher top-of-mind positioning. And just as important: they’re flow-friendly. Dropping the imaging on the song, instead of in between two songs, helps to achieve forward momentum. Short jingle cuts work well too, especially in front of ‘no-intro’ songs.”

Authenticity was the codeword with our latest sonic identity project for Belgium's public broadcaster, VRT.

MNM wanted a fresh, new and edgy sound without compromising the values of the brand - open, welcoming, happy.

"ReelWorld understood the challenge and provided us with even more than we could have hoped for - including a new sonic logo. It’s always a risk to change such a big part of your brand identity, but it’s worked out so well. Our hosts are very pleased with the new sound and love using the imaging. Personally for me it’s been a very enjoyable experience working with the professionals at ReelWorld. A collaborative project where they understood what we needed with lots of room for feedback.
