The Moment (Live)

withiddenoise is a Lethbridge based, post-modern jazz duo, “updating the sounds of sixties soul jazz with contemporary twists“. 

Initially started as a solo recording project in 2000,  withiddenoise now consists of two versatile contributors: Nicholas Colyer, founder (guitar, bass, synthesizers) and Patrice Proulx (trumpet, percussion, flute, piano). 

Nicholas is originally from Edmonton, was in his youth, abnormally tall for his age (then grew to a remarkably average height), and has never gone sky diving. Patrice came of age in the picturesque countryside of Quebec, has never owned a dog sled and has a great fondness for bicycles. Together they share an affinity for 70’s progressive rock, 50’s and 60’s jazz, and much of the history of electronic and Jamaican roots music. 

Their first collaboration culminated in the album “in our spare time”, completed  fall 2007. A combination of plaintive trumpet and guitar improvised in a  psychedelic haze of electronic sound scapes, created a moody, beat heavy atmosphere. More upbeat and at times, danceable, “Manage the Damage!” an e.p. was released in 2010. They then recorded songs live from their Record Store Day show April 17th, 2010. Recorded at Blueprint Entertainment, the band decided to play with only electronics, (no guitar or trumpet) for the first time.

Gigs have been and are currently being played. Music is being written and recorded. CD-R’s with home made album covers have been sent to collage radio. Time has been set aside for full time “Day Jobs”, because no one wants to, “party like a rock star”, all the time.
