이 곡은 ‘성덕대왕신종이 가진 환상성을 어떻게 하면 전자 음악화 할 수 있을까’라는 상상에서 출발하여 이를
불교적 소재와 결합하여, 즉 사찰에서 쉽게 볼 수 있는 목탁, 풍경, 불경, 법고를 함께 음악적 재료로 채택하여
작곡하였다. 구조적으로 살펴보면 처음부터 끝까지 통일되어 흘러가나 약 2분 단위로 음악적 맥락이 변화하며
소재가 가진 본래의 소리 속성을 점진적으로 파괴하고자 하였다. 

이 작품은 2개의 오디오 채널로 만들어졌으며 전자음향은 Pure Data와 Supercollider를 통해 프로그래밍 하였다. 이 작품에는 그 어떠한 종교적 의미를 포함하지 않고 불교적 의식 도구를 순수한 작곡 재료로 삼아 이를 음악으로
탄생 시켰음을 분명히 명시한다.

"Neverland Syndrome" 은 영원히 아이의 모습으로 사는 피터팬과 그 친구들이 사는 곳,
‘네버랜드’의 이름을 따서 우리 사회에 나이 들기를 거부하는 피터팬들이 많아지는 현상을
일컫는 용어로, 서울대 소비 트렌드 분석센터가 2023년의 소비 트렌드 키워드 중 하나로 선정하기도 했다.

본 작품에서는 Neverland Syndrome과 연관된 6가지의 키워드 (Unstable / Change in life cycle / Paradox / Stay / Consolation / Dynamic)를 각 악장의 소제목으로 정하고, MZ세대와 기성세대 간의 갈등, 인간의 생애주기 확장과 복잡화, 사회적 책임을 회피하는 태도 등을 바이올린과 전자음악으로 표현하였다. 각 악장의 길이는 40초에서 1분 30초 가량으로 간결하게 구성되어 있는데, 이는 유튜브 쇼츠, 인스타그램 릴스와 같은 “숏폼 콘텐츠”에 익숙한 MZ세대의 콘텐츠 소비 트렌드를 반영한 것이다.

"어떻게 어린이 같은 삶의 경이를 잃지 않으면서도 경험의 지혜를 일생을 통해 켜켜이 쌓아 올려갈 수 있을까? 인생이란 리허설 없이 매일 무대에 서면서 연기를 배워나가야 하는 쉼 없는 공연의 연속이다 우리는 매일 조금씩 더 성숙하기를 포기할 수 없는 조금 나이 든 어린아이들이다."

"Neverland Syndrome" is a term that refers to the phenomenon of Peter Pan-like individuals who refuse to grow up in our society, named after the place where Peter Pan and his friends live forever in the form of children. The Seoul National University Consumer Trend Center also selected it as one of the consumer trend keywords for 2023. 

In this work, six keywords related to Neverland Syndrome (Unstable/Change in life cycle/Paradox/Stay/Consolation/Dynamic) were chosen as subtitles for each movement, and the conflict between the Millennial and Zoomer generation(MZ) generation and the older generation, the extension and complication of human life cycles, and the attitude of avoiding social responsibility were expressed through violin and electronic music.

Each movement is composed succinctly, with a length of about 40 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds, reflecting the content consumption trend of the MZ generation, who are familiar with short-form content such as YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
