Round To A Project AIFF

Not really an overdub, but a "simuldub" like Sidney Bechet's layered recordings on the old Victrola: play the original on one machine while recording it and additional music on another. i recorded Nick's Song1 on iPhone, then played it back on my stereo speakers while recording more music along with the original on the iPhone again, creating Nick's Song2. My instrument throughout was a Fender Les Paul clone through a 30 watt amp, Gain all the way up. Came out noisy but kind of beautiful.

The song is a description — I did see and hear the plane climb into the sky heading north to Portland, and the song flowed from there.

Halfway To Portland

Started playing with this song in the 1970s and gradually added words and other parts over the next 20 years. After I started, Carly Simon and others came out with similar ideas. I eventually said, O well, and went ahead with it anyway. A musician friend liked the weird D-chord variant in the title phrase.

When It's Done (Short)

I composed this instrumental piece for my play, Lobster Valley Flood, about Drummer's return to Oregon after a long drive from the The Farm in Tennessee. He arrives about 4am at his friend's place in Lobster Valley, near Alsea in the Coast Range, during a severe rainstorm that will flood the valley over night. Local people gather on an empty hilltop barn to escape the flood and have Hippie-inspired visions of Drummer's life and his music.

Scene Change - LVF

A TV doc about an elderly Mexican guitarist  led me to think about my own past as a laborer and musician. (Photo is from that time.) My hands were rough then, with broken nails, as were the old man's in the film. This song came into my head.

Stone Skipping SC

Due to advanced arthritis, I can no longer play guitar or any other instrument. I closed my previous SoundCloud account out of frustration with the situation, and the account held my recordings of about 30 of my songs. But I recently decided to return to SoundCloud -- this time, slowly, adding one song at a time with about a week between each upload. I'm also leaving out the poorest recordings and posting only the ones with the best quality. So, here goes...
