Tuesday’s show went from motor sports to medicine as we chatted with NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Kaz Grala who, at 24, has raced at every level there is in the NASCAR circuit including a number of Cup Series races filling in for other drivers as he awaits a regular spot in the sport’s premier series.

What should we do with the proceeds? The Bruins take on Dallas today in a 1pm puck drop. The Bruins have lost 5 out of 6, but head coach Jim Montgomery is not about to panic: "The sky is not falling." Let's get a W today vs Dallas and then kick things into the next gear as we head out on a big road trip later this week.

Liam Magan, General Manager, from the Teatotaller Cafe on Main st. in Concord dropped in to talk about all that’s happening at the cafe. Twice named Best of NH, Teatotaller is a “queer, hipster oasis of tea, coffee, and pastry goodness.” Named “Most Instagrammable Restaurant in America” by Food Network Magazine they have incredible waffles, drinks with boba (I didn’t know either) and macaroons made right there. Teatotaller is a café, tea-house, bistro, and venue with two locations in Concord and Dover, New Hampshire. They offer catering as well as host functions.

Austin17House is a youth and family community center located in the heart of Rockingham County in New Hampshire. Lindsey Messina is the Executive Director at Austin17House and she joins us on this WKXL Spotlight to let people know about some of the great resources and activities that are available to kids in the area. As we listen to Lindsey speak, we can't help but ask ourselves: "Are we doing all that we can to try to help other people?"  When you do something nice for one person, that can start a chain reaction that results in helping tens or hundreds or even thousands of other people. Springtime is peaking its’ head around the corner and that means gardening and I’m particularly fond of permaculture gardening.
Dunstan Smith from The Hummingbird Center in Dorchester, NH drops in to chat about all things permaculture and organic at the Center. The Center is an active permaculture farm with a 26-year perennial food system and hosts tours. It has a huge cob pizza oven, solar dehydrator, two outdoor solar heated showers, has classes for yoga, sound baths, has a literal farm to table restaurant called Nourish and can accommodate campers. The Hummingbird Center will begin offering yoga-based retreats with diverse programming ranging from edible wild plant walks to paint therapy, meditation, cooking classes, guided hikes, and much more.

I’m telling you I’m in love with permaculture and so today I had Amy and Ethan Sager, from the Again & Again Farmstead in Tamworth, come by to chat up their farm. Their diversified farm produces growing supplies, wool products, flower bouquets, and ethically grown fruit and vegetables using non-certified organic methods. We talked about biochar, vermiculture (worms), no-till gardening, heritage breed chickens, ducks and sheep (and all the great wool that comes from them) and a heckuva lot more!!

Tuesday's program featured Miss New Hampshire Volunteer 2024 Eliza Fisher. Eliza won the competition in September of 2023 and is preparing for the Miss Volunteer America pageant in June.In our monthly visit with the New Hampshire Department of Safety we visited with Amy McLaughlin, the Community Risk Reduction Specialist and Public Information Officer from the office of the State Fire Marshal. Is the third time the charm or the curse? The charm of course!! Attorney Jim Rosenberg from the law offices of Shaheen & Gordon drops by for his third visit. The topic? Forget about it!! I had to toss the topic sheet out the window because Jim came loaded for bear. He’s like a verbal machine gun. He can hit more topics in the first 5 minutes than I can hope we’ll hit in total hour we have together. Keno, March Madness, trips to NYC, black ice hockey tournaments, tips on getting to NYC, inflation and he even managed to sneak in a little politics. That just the first segment!!! He’s a great guest, brilliant mind, incredible memory and excellent story teller. Yup, third time was a charm.

Karielle Silk called into WKXL and spoke with NH Unscripted about a project she and some friends are working on. It’s a music album. What’s it like to create a music album? What if it’s not just a music album, but, a Christian music album? Do the songs have to have a meaning and/or a purpose greater than just be entertaining? If so, why and what would that be? What’s the process to create the songs? Who’s involved in producing and marketing it? Also, the group is going to take it on tour in NH at a minimum. And did she say they’re going to give the album away for free?

Amanda Leith, the Education Coordinator of the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord discussed the rarity of today's eclipse and the event being held at the Discovery Center starting at noon. Hockey East Guru John Leahy previewed the Men's NCAA's Frozen Four later this week in Minnesota featuring two Hockey East teams, Boston College and Boston University. We were also joined by New York Times best selling author Keith O'Brien who talked about his new book, "Charlie Hustle: The Rise and Fall of Pete Rose and the Last Glory Days of Baseball."

Brian Messina, owner of the Royal T Car Wash in Derry, dropped by and gives us a boatload of info on his car wash business. One of the fastest hours I’ve spent with a guest and it was all about his car wash!! From part time employee to ultimately becoming a passionate owner. I met Brian at a Studio Lab open house in Derry (another topic for another episode) and he started to talk about his car wash; how he started, his issues with the state, the technology, etc. Some inside baseball and a great look at an amazing business as well as an amazing man. What an hour!

The Sports Machine with Slim is down and out. The Bruins loss in game 6 has us feeling like it was a game 7 loss and the series is over. Panic has set in. Negativity has set in. But then from the ashes, some hope from our loyal caller fanbase arises!!! Still, reality has to set in at some point. The Bruins lost a 3-1 series lead last year to Florida. We are now in the same exact position with Toronto, hosting game 7 on our ice Saturday night. I guess it is time to get up off the canvas, dust ourselves off and get ready to go another 12 rounds. We opened the week discussing an incredible weekend in sports...the closest finishes ever for both the Kentucky Derby and a NASCAR Cup Series race. It was also a big weekend for the Boston Bruins as they were able to advance into the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. We talked about that with our hockey analyst, John Leahy. Also discussed; the Tom Brady Netflix Roast, local theatre and a hearing ahead this week to tackle the issues of the parking spaces requirements for the re-imagined design of the Steeplegate Mall area in Concord.

The Boston Bruins have defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs and now move onto a series vs the Florida Panthers.  Game 1 is tonight. This is the team that knocked us out of the playoffs last year, and it is our time to turn the tables!

The Bruins are becoming the talk of the town.....and they are definitely the talk of today's show. It is crazy to say but the Celtics may be playing 2nd fiddle from here on in. Nobody would have predicted that a few months ago. Nobody, that is, except The Sports Machine with Slim!  We have been telling people for months that this Boston Bruins team is special. And we are being proven right as the days go by. All you need to do is Trust in Monty!

The Bruins win last night to go up 1-0 over the Florida Panthers. The Boston Celtics win tonight to go up 1-0 over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The New England region is once again filled with winning!
