"Open - jazz - fusion" – this is how the band called their music
style. This mix of their various experiences and artistic choices
leads us from tradition to the new - and sometimes surprising –
space of coincidences. Their inspirations have points of
reference: Ornette Coleman, funk, non-idiomatic improvisation,
ethnic music, open form. At the same time - in an artistic sense
Weston-Majchrzak-Gembalski Trio is a continuation of the Trio
Labirynt with late lamented Michal Zduniak – of course taking
into account a strong personality of new partner Grant Calvin
Weston.
G.CALVIN WESTON – drums, pads, keyboards,
trumpet
G Calvin Weston was born June 6, 1959 in Philadelphia, PA. He became
interested in drums at the age of 6. At 17, Calvin joined Ornette
Coleman's Prime Time Band, with bass player Jamalaadean Tacuma,
his close friend from Philly, which toured extensively in North America
and Europe. After recording four albums with Prime Time, Calvin went on
to play and record with guitarist James “Blood” Ulmer, until he joined
John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards in 1990.During the late '90s Calvin recorded
and toured with Billy Martin of Medeski Martin and Wood, Tricky, Eyvind
Kang, Derek Bailey, Mark Ribot, and James Carter. He also played on
several movie soundtracks including “Get Shorty.” He also plays with
Jean-Paul Bourelly and Melvin Gibbs in the band called Gypsys
Reloaded, that toured in March of 2008 and recorded a live CD at the
Bimhuis. G. Calvin Weston has played on many recordings including
Asmodeus: Book Of Angels Volume 7 with Marc Ribot, Trevor Dunn, and
John Zorn.
For his latest project, Calvin Weston's Big Tree, Calvin explores the
many musical influences of his career as band leader and composer. He
also has a new band with world guitarist, Vernon Reid and bass player,
Jamalaadean Tacuma and formed the group freeformfunkyfreqs and
there new CD Urban Mythology Volume 1.

KRZYSZTOF MAJCHRZAK – electric basses, guitars
Krzysztof Majchrzak is one of the most creative contemporary bassists.
Originally from Poland, he learns classical bass at the National
Conservatory of Music. Composer and performer, he is interested in jazz
and al kind of improvised music. Musician imaginative and generous, he
played among others with Tom Bergeron, Philippe Garcia Andrzej
Przybielski, Michel Godard, Rick Hollander, Walter Lang, Michal
Zduniak, Keller Coker, John Primer, Earl Howell, he played on many
festivals and tours in Europe, Canada and the United States. He
recorded several CDs in Poland, France and the United States.
His musical universe is at the crossroads of different musical cultures
and different sources of inspiration (the "Harmolodique" Ornette Coleman
system Lydian Chromatic Concept of George Russell, John Cage, Béla
Bartók, Georgy Ligety, contemporary music and ethnic music). He
practiced improvisation "non-idiomatic", while constantly looking for
unique and original sound.

HENRYK GEMBALSKI – violin
Henryk Gembalski – improvising violinist, film and theatre composer. He
has been performing all over Europe, USA, China, Russia, Algeria. His
playing can be heard on nearly 40 records with bands like Labirynt, Die
Sicherheit, Globtrotters, Nahorny Septet, Young Power, Basspace. The
list of musicians with whom he regularly performs reads like a "who's
who" of Polish jazz. He has written music to 30 plays, and performed in
over 350 theatrical acts staged by most renowned Polish theatres, e.g.
Współczesny and Polski in Wrocław, Ósmego Dnia and Polski in
Poznań, Studyjny and Jaracz in Łódź, Dramatyczny, Współczesny,
Polski and Studio in Warsaw. He is a lecturer at Music Academies in
Katowice and Łódź.
His technical mastery of the instrument is exhilarating to see and hear. In
addition, his ability to control electronic processing in a live setting makes
him a one-man string section.
