Soft Break 

Rotterdam-based Soft Break is a DJ and multidisciplinary designer who experiments in re-constructing collective consciousness through design, film, sound, music and performance. 
Early encounters with her city's jungle, dubstep and grime scene are heavily reflected in her eclectic sets. Not shying away from 160BPM, she moves through gentle vocals, techno, footwork, hip-hop and sub-destroying bass. Her sets are always full of unexpected twists and turns.

She is one of the graduates of the No Shade DJ Mentoring Program class 2020 in Berlin. That same year AMPFEMININE was born, a DJ collective based in Rotterdam aiming to add a variety of colour behind the decks and adding feminine energy that is missing in the power dynamics that are currently in place.

Next week we will finally see her on her much-awaited festival debut next to her fellow AMPFEMININE member Nala Brown at Dekmantel Festival and later this summer at Dekmantel Selectors.

With online mixes she's always aiming to expand the scope of genre-bending, fusing various drum patterns, rhythms, and vocals.

I was inspired to record this mix the day after seeing Job Jobse in Sydney. His Melt Festival ‘Sleepless Floor’ mix from 2015 (Set time: 7am) is one I keep going back to and it is the main reason I wanted to get better at DJing. Unfortunately I wasn’t there to witness that set in person (I attended Melt the following year), but I am very familiar with that stage and the energy it brings. 

As the name suggests, the music literally doesn’t stop for the entire duration of the festival. When I listen to this mix, I can feel the special moments as though I was there. This is why I wanted to take DJing more seriously so I could attempt to create these myself (well, that is the dream).
