Why "Unpainted?"

These are lyrics I have tattooed on my arm. It's about a journey of personal healing that has slowly shown me who I am and how much of me was hidden under all of the pain.

"I was a butterfly with unpainted wings, my father of true birth did cry and colors he waited to delicately apply. And as my colors revealed he was my gentle shield and the wounds that covered my colors were healed."
