It takes me forever to put a mix together, much longer than I'd like to admit. The Tangerine Mix has been no exception. This isn't a mix of brand new songs, in fact, most of these tracks came out several years ago. Instead, it's a collection of music that makes me think of the last days of summer and the oncoming fall.

French producer Jean Tonique wants to have fun. In fact, it's pretty much his raison d'etre. Live and behind the decks, Jean Tonique wants to move the crowd, to get those bodies shaking.

New album 'Well Mannered Frivolity' is pretty much a mission statement, with the producer sluicing together disco, the French house lineage, and so much more. A delectable, delicious achievement, Jean Tonique adds a fresh pop touch that makes these underground tropes completely accessible. Of course, it also helps that 'Well Mannered Frivolity' is packed with banger after banger...

Completing a new mix for Clash readers, Jean Tonique opens with some party-starters, including Kaytranada's titanic edit of TLC's classic R&B rump-shaker 'Flippin On You'. Matching Hll & Oates against Shalamar, the French producer dives back into the underground with a series of edits, including his own take on an Idris Muhammad classic. Just the sort of thing we need to shake off those Monday blues, then.

Jean Tonique explains: “I’ve thrown together a little mix with some funky jams and groovy house tracks. I think it could be the perfect soundtrack for a night of well mannered frivolity.”
