IN BRIEF 
Renowned for their sublime, lyrical take on dance music, DC / Berlin based duo Benoit & Sergio return to their spiritual home of Visionquest with some freshly crafted groove ridden thrills. More set in the smoke and heat of the club than their vocalised bittersweet visions, the ‘Your Darkness’ EP showcases the duo at their dancefloor focused playful best whilst incorporating infectious vocal samples, searing melodies and pulsing rhythms. Opener ‘Splash’ is at once murky and tropical as the bassline grinds underneath light footed percussion whilst title track ‘Your Darkness’ is a deep and moody groover with signature rich synth work. Closing track ‘Beat Macho’ is a wayward beast with a darker edge and satisfyingly complex chugging framework that makes for a heady trip into the depths of the night.

 BACKGROUND
o+ Leaving an indelible mark on a selection of pioneering labels since 2009 - Spectral Sound, DFA, Hot Creations, Culprit and of course Visionquest have all fallen prey to Benoit & Sergio’s unique brand of sensuous electronics. The duo first appeared on Visionquest for the imprints’ inaugural release in 2011 ‘Where The Freaks Have No Name’ featuring the ubiquitous ‘Walk And Talk’ - a quintessential slice of romantic techno. Then in late 2012 the ‘New Ships EP’ further demonstrated the duo’s ability to mix visceral energy with the emotional.   

o+o Gaining the title of iTunes breakthrough electronic artists of the year in 2011 and featuring in RA’s best live act poll in 2011 and 2012, they also had the tracks ‘Everybody’, ‘Principles’, ‘Let Me Count The Ways’, and ‘Walk and Talk’ variously charted in top 20 year-end polls for Resident Advisor, Mixmag and DJ Mag. The duo have since been enlisted to remix heavyweights such as Matthew Dear, Metronomy, Hot Natured and covered Daft Punk.

o+o+ This year the duo is working on completing their long anticipated debut album co-produced with DARKSIDE aka Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington, and set to be released on the magically diverse Other People imprint. A single will be dropped as a teaser in the not too distant future.

It’s been a long time coming, the debut Slow Hands EP Everything (We Are) on Wolf + Lamb Records. Yes, you read that right, this is the first EP to be released by the long time W+L artist, Slow Hands.

Known to his friends & family as Ryan Cavanagh, the native Vermonter has maintained a career as both a live musician, and DJ through a consistent release of singles and remixes for W+L, as well as Permanent Vacation, K7, and Bedrock to name a few. With Everything (We Are), Cavanagh sets out to deliver a preview of the diversity that will be expressed in the great number of songs set to be released in the coming year, and longly anticipated LP.

The organic foundation is laid early with the funk fueled Miss White. A song steered by it’s live rhythm section, vocals, guitar, as well as it’s elaborate arrangement. Second Fiddle, a staple in Slow Hands’ recent live sets, is the very epitome of his traditional verse/chorus composition style over loose and energetic beats. The EP slows tempo with it’s title ballad Everything (We Are), a display of Cavanagh’s recently discovered raw vocals, and a powerfully emotional chorus, reinforced by the vocals of Dave Robertson.

Robertson, more widely known as Cameo Culture, who also acts as co-producer, and musician on this release, concludes the EP with a compelling rendition of the title song. Driving things home with a more rock inspired re-harmonization of Everything (We Are), Robertson augments what will be the theme of all forthcoming Slow Hands’ releases; organics, musicianship, and diversity.

el 18 de enero de 1912, Robert Falcon Scott alcanza el Polo Sur.

Scott era un marino explorador, que capitaneó dos expediciones a la Antártida. En la primera descubrió una zona importante del continente, conocida como Mar de Ross y en la segunda concretó la tan ansiada llegada al Polo... pero en este caso con algunos matices poco felices:

Scott elavoró la gran expedición con la idea de ser el primer humano "civilizado" en llegar al polo. Contaba con el apoyo del Gobierno inglés y una respetada fama popular. Después de años de planes, y muchos meses de viaje y esfuerzos para llevar adelante su objetivo, Scott y sus cuatro compañeros llegan al Polo, pero se encuentran con una desagradable sorpresa:
Roald Amundsen, un expedicionario Noruego con el que había tenido muchas discusiones y lo consideraba casi un rival, había llegado un mes antes.

Para colmo de males, Scott y su equipo, fallecen en el viaje de vuelta a causa de las tremendas inclemencias meteorológicas, que sus cuerpos exhaustos y mal alimentados no pudieron soportar.

Hoy en día, Robert Falcon Scott sigue siendo considerado uno de los héroes ingleses del siglo XX, no sabemos bien, si por su valentía, por su mala suerte o por sus errores en la planificación, que no solo lo mataron a él sino también a sus cuatro tripulantes... sea como sea, recordamos sus ganas de Sur profundo, escuchando una gran perla del dúo ingles Layo & Bushwacka (grabada en las primeras horas del presente milenio):
