Here comes a very special recording from the Afterglow tent at Comfort & Joy. Following a naked bike ride was an anything goes party with CBass (@cbasstx) and @Mouthfeel. Despite the challenges of DJing in the middle of a tent off in the middle of a desert, these two laid down a fierce set.

SWEAT MIX 003: MICHAEL MAGNAN

Back in June 2019 we had the chance to throw our first BARBA party at TheStud in San Francisco. We've been missing this powerful city lately and that's why we needed some queer party love from @jump_r

As one of the founding members of Fog City Pack (@fogcitypack) and resident of San Francisco's monthly disco party, DAD SF (@dadpartysf), Joe Weidman (a.k.a. Jumpr) has spent the last several years striving to create unique, inclusive, exciting experiences for the SF queer and leather communities not just as a DJ but also as the Creative Director of Fog City Pack. He prides himself on being a dance floor filler, agnostic of genre, spinning everything from sweaty bathhouse disco to throbbing techno bangers. Jumpr wants to bring the rush and keep the energy ecstatic.

Shortly after San Francisco entered quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic back in March, Jumpr helped cofound the SF Bay Area Queer Nightlife Fund (@sfqueernightlifefund), which has to date raised over $300,000 for out of work queer nightlife workers affected by the crisis. Recognising the history of white supremacy and male cisgender privilege in queer communities, and acknowledging the immense contributions of black and brown people to dance music and club culture, the QNF aims to prioritise women, transgender, gender nonconforming, non-binary, and all queer Black, Indigenous, and people of colour through grants, resources, and performance opportunities.

I began working on this set while the Bay Area was gripped with smoke from the devastating wildfires that have been destroying California over the last few months. It was hard to focus my creative energy when at one point (on my birthday, no less!) the smoke was so thick the sky turned bright orange for a full day. It’s no secret the United States has been in a constant state of turmoil lately, and that energy definitely made its way into this mix. 

However, if there’s one thing that has kept me afloat during the last six months of lockdown, it’s been the beauty and resiliency of our queer community. And the knowledge that no matter how ugly the world around us becomes, we will continue to come together, support each other, and create beauty wherever we are. So I hope this music finds you well and leaves you with a sense of joy and positive energy for you to take forth and create a better world than the one we’re currently experiencing.

I will be raising money for The Transgender District, which is the first legally recognised transgender district in the world, located here in San Francisco. The mission of the Transgender District is to create an urban environment that fosters the rich history, culture, legacy, and empowerment of transgender people and its deep roots in the southeastern Tenderloin neighbourhood. 

The transgender district aims to stabilise and economically empower the transgender community through ownership of homes, businesses, historic and cultural sites, and safe community spaces.
