Here comes a very special recording from the Afterglow tent at Comfort & Joy. Following a naked bike ride was an anything goes party with CBass (@cbasstx) and @Mouthfeel. Despite the challenges of DJing in the middle of a tent off in the middle of a desert, these two laid down a fierce set.

I use the term “dark disco” frequently to describe some of the sounds I enjoy spinning the most. Unlike house, disco, and techno; which people generally seem to understand, most people want to know, what is “dark disco?” 
DD is a toddler compared to grandpa Disco and mom and dad, House and Techno. It’s a bowl of soup that combines even parts 80s electric guitar, tobacco stained synths, punk, acid, dark wave, new wave, often a dash of middle eastern melodies, but the broth is always the danceable 4/4 rhythm of disco.  It suits minimal lighting with heavy haze more than a brightly lit floor where our teeth glow. It’s a notoriously difficult genre to describe, it’s contradictory in its dark yet uplifting nature. I like to picture a leather bar or a rugged back alley with lots of graffiti in a movie shot by Tim Burton and perhaps Michelle Pfeiffer as catwoman is the main character. Sub-genres “cobra wave,” “slow techno”, “indie dance,” or “witch house,” are often used in concurrence or instead of dark disco. It’s nostalgic, it’s a vibe, and it’s more sexy than it is scary.
