Brazilian producer and composer Tagua Tagua's latest album, a 9-track collection, once again in collaboration with Brooklyn’s Wonderwheel Recordings. Written, produced, and recorded entirely in his downtown São Paulo apartment, 'RAIO' marks a new chapter in Tagua Tagua’s creative journey. While maintaining the neo-soul, tropicalia and psychedelic influences that defined his earlier work, the album introduces a fresh dance energy. Drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Tim Maia, Cassiano, and Bill Withers, Tagua skillfully incorporates contemporary elements reminiscent of Daft Punk and French indie band L’Imperatrice.

'RAIO' unfolds like a continuous dance, moving freely through time, whether at the start of the night or in the early hours of morning. The opening track, "Dia de Sol" (Sunny Day), sets the mood with a subtle warmth, serving as a bridge between his previous album, Tanto, and this new work. One of the album’s standout singles, "Let it Go," follows with a groove that invites listeners to move, blending dreamy melodies with rhythmic beats for an otherworldly yet grounded experience.

The album’s energy carries through tracks like "Artificial" and "Química," which feature disco-infused rhythms and a seamless interplay of Portuguese and English lyrics. A key moment comes with the fourth track, "Lado a Lado" (Side by Side), a collaboration with American band White Denim. The song, an ode to life’s most uplifting feelings, evokes the serenity of a cool breeze in a chaotic world. White Denim’s contributions—guitars, flutes, and percussion—add new dimensions to the arrangement, making the track a cornerstone of the record.

Felipe Puperi, the creative force behind Tagua Tagua, resides in São Paulo. Before launching his solo project, he fronted the Brazilian indie band Wannabe Jalva, which earned acclaim opening for artists such as Jack White and Pearl Jam and performing at major festivals like Lollapalooza Brazil. In 2017, his interest in exploring the roots of the Portuguese language and Brazilian musical heritage led to the creation of Tagua Tagua. Since then, he has released two full-length albums, along with several singles and EPs. Felipe is preparing to bring 'RAIO' to the stage with performances at the SXSW festival and Lollapalooza Brazil this March, sharing his latest work with audiences both near and far.

Argentian producer Pedro Canale aka Chancha Via Circuito returns from a three-year sojourn with his long awaited third album, Amansara.  Originally coming out of Buenos Aires's famed digital cumbia scene, Chancha has notoriously broken way outside those boundaries to forge unprecedented mergers between Brazilian rhythms, Paraguayan harp, Andean mysticism and the solitude of Argentinian folklore - all processed through his own futuristic style of post-dubstep.  Chancha's sound is without question truly unique and instantly recognizable to the point he has become a key reference point for an entire crop of artists that have begun to carry his genes. 

Hailed by the Washington Post, the New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR and countless others, Chancha Via Circuito defies even the shrewdest of marketing geniuses.  On one hand, he is something of a cult artist within micro-circles of electronic music, having been invited to perform at Montreal's MUTEK as well as the Roskilde and Vive Latino Festivals. At the same time, Chancha's music has found broad appeal outside of the avant-garde, most notably his magnificent remix of José Larralde's "Quimey Neuquén" which was heavily featured in 2013 as part of the final season of the critically acclaimed television series Breaking Bad. Fans of the show undoubtedly remember Walter White burying his millions in the desert, soundtracked by the wide and gentle grooves of Chancha Via Circuito.

Amansara is a natural progressing of Chancha's special strain of electronic South America. Lead single "Coplita" features the haunting vocals of previous collaborator Miram Garcia, while "Sueno En Paraguay" merges Andean folklore sounds with bleeps and blips and pounding drums in a way that sounds completely natural and ordained. "Jardines" features the driving vocals of Lido Pimienta merging with heavy synths, percussion and bells into an unforgettable track, while both "Tarocchi" and "Guajaca" ramp things up into deep, electronic dancefloor inna rainforest territory.

The first single from Ayni, El Búho’s exciting new collaboration series, brings together the British producer and Spanish vocalist Alex Serra in a long-awaited, harmonious collaboration. Both artists share a deep-rooted connection to nature, spirituality, and a fusion of electronic and acoustic sounds. The duo first crossed paths performing in Hamburg, and their mutual admiration blossomed into this project. Layered with horns, bird calls, sparkling hi-hats, and drenched in warm reverb and delay, the song captures the essence of a misty dawn over Central America’s Pacific coast, where lush green mountains plunge into the crashing waves of the ocean.

After an extended hiatus, French producer Yeahman returns to Wonderwheel with a remix of his hit track "Baixi Baixi" featuring Aluna Project, which has garnered over 9 million streams worldwide. On remix duties is Morrocan producer Touzani who flips the uplifting folkloric vibes of the original into a driving House track fit for the Jungle parties of Tulum. Aluna Project's delicate Portuguese vocals are sped up, fitting in perfectly with the swirling synth melodies and atmospherics as the bassline and 4/4 drums push the track forward.

"Rumba Tobacco y Ron" is a song born from the collaboration between the neighboring sister islands of Puerto Rico and Cuba. It all started when Nickodemus & Quantic recorded Tempo & The Candela All-Stars's Mi Swing es Tropical in Puerto Rico, capturing the rhythm, bass, and horns. However, Tempo's vocals were never completed, as he tragically passed away soon after. While in Cuba, Nickodemus crossed paths with Haydee Soul, and together they recorded the final lyrics and flute, giving birth to the song's original version. Later, producer and remixer Ben Gomori reworked the track, crafting a chopped-up, electronic dance-floor remix that still retains some of the original piano, horns, and vocal stabs.

At this moment, Global Bass music is an intimate circuit in the electronic music landscape. Airplane tickets and the internet serve to connect producers and artists in every imaginable combination. Spanning across Africa, Europe, India, the Caribbean, and the Americas, allowing for the birth of new forms of collaboration.  At the nexus of the Tropical music monsoon is producer Thor Partridge, aka Thornato.

Born in Sweden, Thor grew up in a household filled with traditional Greek, African, and Carribbean music.  Moving in early childhood to Queens, New York, the borough’s diversity further influenced his style and taste. Thor added to his rich musical palette by studying classical piano, jazz guitar, and bluegrass banjo. A passion for electronic music production, remixing, and music of the entire globe soon developed.  

Thor’s debut EP “Things Will Change” is an amalgamation of his global influence, coupled with strong roots in dance music culture. His music is not a product of samples downloaded from the internet, but from his driving wanderlust and ability to hand select musicians to work with on location in the countries where they are from.  By recording in the field with a mobile studio, Thor captures the real essence and soul of the music and where it's coming from. The EP kicks off with “Chapinero”, a bass heavy joint with an infectious Colombian Gaita melody.  Handclaps and chopped vocal samples make for a booming floor rocker.  “Deux a Duex” turns towards the African dancefloor incorporating infectious guitars and beautiful vocal harmonies courtesy of Kongo Electro from Cape Town. “Koz Kazah” heads to the Middle East with it’s violin melodies, thick sub-bass, and Arabic vocals courtesy of Karen Be. Finally, “Tera Dewana” lands us in the Indian subcontinent with it’s driving beat, tablas, and Hindi vocals from Vasanth S & AKS.

Lagartijeando is the name of producer, musician and DJ Mati Zundel. Born, raised and currently living in a small town on the outskirts of Buenos Aires called Dolores. Strongly influenced by his travels through Latin America, Mati’s signature psychedelic dance tracks latch onto everything from traditional folk sounds from the Bolivian altiplano to the jungle beats of Brazil.

Mati hypnotically fuses his traditional influences (with an emphasis on shaman chant and charango loops) with contemporary electronic beats, creating a sound that once left NPR speechless.

Freshly into 2017, Mati brings us El Gran Poder via Wonderwheel— named after an important Aymara festival that takes place in Bolivia and Peru, purely to celebrate family. At these festivals, the community also celebrates their culture and the importance of the collective identity. The album was recorded in Mati’s town, Dolores, outside of Buenos Aires. Once again taking a huge variety of sounds— this time influenced by Brazilian house, afro-brazilian rhythms, and folkloric Andean music.

Populous is Andrea Mangia, a producer hailing from Lecce, a small city on the heel of Italy's boot. In 2003, he made his first jaunt into the music world with the album Quipo (via Morr Music). In 2005 he released Queue For Love, influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy's Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) and in 2008 he released Drawn in Basic. Both albums were widely received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global music map. He became known for the way he seamlessly blends digital sounds with the analog warmth of soul/hip-hop/whatever else he's influenced by at the time.

Azulejos, his forthcoming release, has a South American tinge to it (and is even partly in Spanish). He moved to Lisbon, Portugal to start work on the album bringing with him only a laptop, a small MIDI keyboard, and a microphone. "Lisbon became both my studio and my muse," he says. He wandered the city collecting field recordings— from trams to people singing on street corners. He sifted through flea markets for records to use for sampling (exclusively Portuguese and South American). Populous describes Lisbon as a city 'halfway between South American soul and European modernity, African in some aspects, and dramatically melancholic." He channeled these poignant fusions into Azulejos, named for the typical tiled facades in Portugal— simultaneously bright and decaying. The album features collaborations with Nina Miranda of Smoke City and Ela Minus, among others. It's a love letter to Lisbon, and a dreamy quilt of sounds he both grew up with and heard for the first time during his influential stay in Portugal.

Since WONDERWHEEL Recording's inception in 2004, Moreno Visini aka The Spy from Cairo, has been sending out dub- based electronic music that has created quite a Worldwide following. On his 3rd studio album under the name The Spy from Cairo, he switches his signature instrument, the classical Arabic Oud, to an electronic Oud which also reflects a transition in his sound throughout the album to a more cosmic & electronic dance- floor experience. The title, "Nothing New Under the Sun" reflects his constant call for people to be more united in this World rather than divided. As he says in the liner notes; "As time goes by, people never seem to learn from History, which we see repeating over & over again (and those in power seem to always stir the same old soup). I sincerely hope we wake up and see what really matters in this life and be together as one.... because all is ONE UNDER THE SUN."  

Written, produced, performed & mixed himself, the album also features some of his Brooklyn Gypsies band-mates Fatima Gozlar, Takuya Nakamura & Ilker Ciraci as well as the talents of Maalem (master gnawa musician) Ben Hassan Jaafer of the group Innov Gnawa on vocals. The album starts with a slow Oud intro backed by a heavy 808 kick to satisfy the likes of his growing Worldwide tribal female belly dance community. He then gives us some classic eastern dub with the tunes "Damascus Market Dub" & "Universal." The transition to the club dance-floor is displayed next with the funky cosmic disco based "Sahir" which has been a real hit from Ozora Festival in Hungary to the Symbiosis festival on the West coast USA. "Dub Shaabi" is a rhythm bending North African shaabi meets dub style production featuring Hassan Ben Jaafer on vocals saying "the Gnawa is coming & they bring good, positive, (sweet) things."Prophecy in Motion" & "When Giants Ruled the Earth" both come in with the disco dub beats that translate well with his string instrument melodies & solos. Next, you get a real cosmic electronic trip with "Ya Amar" & "Sirens of the Nile" showing his diverse Organic Grooves roots. Rounding off the album, "Cairo Tripper" drops some heavy mid tempo beats with apreggiating synths as the backbone for more of his top notch Oud playing.

For the last decade, Argentina has become the epicenter of a musical explosion that characteristically blends folk music from the surrounding Andes and electronic beats. The artist arguably responsible for its emergence on a global platform is one named Chancha Via Circuito- a Buenos Aires native named Pedro Canale whose first album Rodante (2008) opened the floodgates by pushing the borders of Cumbia listeners weren't even aware existed. He was revered by the likes of The Fader and Bandcamp, who referred to him as an electro-folk alchemist - and that he is. 

On June 7, Lagartijeando casts a new spell with Jallalla, an ambitious new full length being released on Wonderwheel Recordings. Jallalla is a word used in Bolivia to celebrate something- and it’s a word that strengthens in meaning when more people say it together. Jallalla is an entire life in an album - beginning with what would be the sonic representation of pulling back reeds to discover a new path with the song Villazon-Potosi and its sparse electronic percussion gradually filled in with curiosity-giving winds. Following is joyful charango riff that becomes the base for the track La Frontera, which features the sweet, wispy voice of Minük, the Colombian artist Alejandra Ortiz, known as half of the duo Lulacruza.

Mexican duo Sotomayor return with the first single off upcoming third album Orígenes. “Quema” lets you know what it is straight-away: the “chuck-chucka-chuck” rhythm of the scraper (guira), the rising bass line, the keyboard that appears to be sending out an alarm signal. This is clearly cumbia, but it isn’t recognisable for long. A pounding bass line takes over, a beat is set and then Paulina Sotomayor’s voice enters, guiding the track. At first she is slow, assured, but then the chorus hits and there’s a release, a soulful higher-pitched melody as new synth lines bubble below. Elements of that original cumbia beat return in new ways, adding urgency, rhythm and detail, as the song continues to reinvent itself and play with ideas of what global bass and cumbia should sound like, all the while giving full focus to the song itself, to telling its story. The cherry on top is the guest appearance of Totin “Arará” Agosto, one of Puerto Rico’s most loved singers and composers, and a man pivotal in putting Puerto Rican bomba back on the map. He adds joyful second vocals, seemingly losing himself in the music. His presence is a reminder that the musica callejera (street music) he plays does not have to be so different to club music. This is music to dance to, to revel, to telegraph delight.

On “Quema”, as on the rest of Orígenes, Sotomayor perform Latinx electronic music that is as bold, thrilling and alive as any street party, with a strong sense of roots or tradition. Yet it is also music that is defined by the duo’s qualities as songwriters, with a clear knack for melody and dynamics that add a sense of rock ‘n’ roll urgency. They are aided on the album by co-producer Eduardo Cabra (“Visitante” of the much-missed Puerto Rican rebel rousers Calle 13), who has recently helped push Latin singer/songwriters like Jorge Drexler, iLe and Vincent Garcia into making ground-breaking fusions of Latin tradition and modern musical forms, and won two Latin Grammy Producer of the Year awards in the process. The trick appears to have been rung once more. Sotomayor are creating their own unique musical universe, fuelled by the sounds of Latin America’s clubs and streets, with a level of songcraft and production know-how that only seems to keep on growing.

Sotomayor are the brother/sister duo of Raul and Paulina Sotomayor. They formed in 2015 after years of activity in Mexico City’s emerging indie scene, playing in bands such as Jefes del Desierto and Beat Buffet. Orígenes is their third album following Salvaje (2015) and Conquistador (2017).

Orígenes will be released by Wonderwheel Recordings in February 2020.

After diving deep on his latest album "Jallalla", Lagartijeando returns with five killer remixes from friends and fam around the world of some favorites off the LP. Spain's Baiuca goes for a dubby, driving remix of "Milenio" with a bubbling bassline while Wonderwheel favorite El Buho turns "Anoranza En El Yungas" in to a flute driven cumbia stomper. Chile's DJ Raff comes in on "La Frontera" with some slo mo acid vibes, while Ulises takes "Chakana Cosmica" into mid tempo dubby tech house range. Lastly Steffen Ki (formerly Steffen Kirchhoff) turns "Villazon Potosi" into a beautiful ambient touched, understated affair - keeping the original spirit alive while building on percussive elements.

Montréal-based artist Poirier is back with the first single from his upcoming album, "Café Com Leite" with Brazilian singer (now based in Paris) Flavia Coelho. The song transports the listener to the shores of Brazil - to enjoy a "coffee with milk" - with a stunning vocal delivery from Coelho, gentle guitar licks, and a danceable rhythm. With his first album dating back to 2001, Poirier is a prolific, creative and eclectic Canadian producer / musician with a 20 year journey of creating music. Constant in his albums and DJ performances is a desire to build bridges between different languages, communities, and cultures. His open, uninhibited musical mind means that his works bend boundaries, resulting in compositions that mix several styles and eras. He now has produced a total of 11 albums and many EPs with labels such as Ninja Tune, Nice Up Records and, more recently, Wonderwheel Recordings. Active in Montreal, his successful monthly dance party Qualité de Luxe is dedicated to African and Caribbean music, attracting crowds for over six years. Poirier is also the man behind Bounce le Gros and Karnival, parties with legendary status in Montreal nightlife history. Poirier's "Soft Power" LP is out on New York's Wonderwheel Recordings in June.

The Italian ballroom scene is vibrant and Milan is under the international spotlight. For his new single “House of Keta”, Italian DJ and producer Populous (aka Andrea Mangia) invited Italian icon, M¥SS KETA, and the pioneer mother of Italian voguing, Gorgeous Kenjii Gucci, to create a ballroom anthem. Fashion, shady references and bold runways are the ingredients of this beat that you can’t refuse to dance to. The day after Milano Pride 2019, the concept of HOK was conceived by DJ and creative director Protopapa, along with Motel Forlanini (M¥SS KETA's clique) and the producers Riva and Populous. This journey was supported by the help of Gorgeous Kenjii Gucci, an outstanding performer, dancer and choreographer who also acts in the song’s bridge. With a background in musicology, Populous has always been interested in disparate genres and styles of music, which is reflected in the output from the Populous project and its focus on Latin American sounds as refracted through a European lens. In 2003, Mangia made his first jaunt into the music world with the album ‘Quipo’ (via Morr Music), followed by ‘Queue For Love’ in 2005. Influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy’s Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) he released ‘Drawn in Basic’ in 2008, which was well received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global dance music map. The 2010s have seen Mangia refine the Populous sound with albums like ‘Night Safari’ (Bad Panda Records) and ‘Azulejos’ (Wonderwheel Recordings), while also expanding his role as a sound designer for fashion houses such as Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, Isabel Marant, and Elie Saab, among others. ‘W’ releases on Wonderwheel Recordings May 22nd.
